Get John Mayer to Boston for the Tea Party

What do you guys think it would take to get John Mayer to come out and sing for Ron Paul during the Tea Party?

While I think Ron Paul could easily get over 10,000 people to come see him in Boston, I think John Mayer throwing a free concert during the Tea Party would bring a massive amount of people out. Especially among the key demographics that the campaign seems to be having trouble reaching out to: WOMEN.

Just think of this, Ron Paul and John Mayer flying in the blimp over the Boston Harbor. They land next to the stage, the crowd goes wild. Ron Paul gives a speech reflecting his main platform ideas to the 30-40K people in attendance. John Mayer takes over and plays a set. Volunteers all around pass out campaign info, register people to vote... etc

Now, it might be a nightmare to coordinate logistics on such short notice, getting permits and even John Mayer to agree to go along with this. But I think if he wanted to put his money where his mouth is, he'd totally do it. Just imagine the boost for the campaign!

I'd Love This, BUT

No one would love to see John Mayer play at the Tea Party more than me, I am a huge John Mayer fan.

However, I think someone would have to pay John to play, because an appearance by him would be valued at more than the $2300 contribution limit. I seem to remember Clinton getting in hot water when she ran for Senate because a singer tried to perform for free and it was considered a campaign contribution.

I don't know if the campaign could be sold on paying whatever John Mayer gets on average for a performance.

I think if they realized the amount of women that they could get to come out and listen to Ron Paul's message at the same time, they might think it would be a decent investment. I don't have a single female friend that wouldn't drop everything to go see a FREE John Mayer concert. What would a reasonable fee be? $50,000? $100,000? Maybe we could get a chip-in going.

He's playing in concert in L.A. on the 8th and then he has no other show scheduled after that. Does anybody have any contacts in showbiz?

Sorry, but you'll have to have a better video than that to make me think John Mayer is supportive of Ron Paul. I personally think he was making a joke of Ron Paul's supporters in that video by specifically doing that in front of paparazzi drunk.

Though he was hammered in that video with Justin Long, I really think his support is genuine. If this unfolds the way I think it could, the campaign would end up picking "Waiting on the world to change" for its official campaign song... when that time comes.

Somehow, I think it all just makes perfect sense. The problem, how do we convey this to the concerned parties?

Wow, what a spectacle that would be. People were joking that Ron Paul's a rock star at the Jay Leno appearance, but this time he goes to eleven.

If anyone is taking any action on this, like calling or sending emails to his agent, try to keep the teaparty and blimp organizers in the loop.

I am getting very excited about this project, however I see several things potentially getting in the way:

- There's only 2 weeks left to make this thing a reality.
- There has to be something in it for John Mayer as well, perhaps some positive exposure to counter his drunk antics?
- There seem to be legal ramifications as to how much he should / could be paid for his appearance, he can't do it for free because it might violate campaign financing laws.
- The huge amount of people this would draw out would require police detail, site permits and a myriad of other red-tape I can't even begin to fathom right now.
- And perhaps most important, how do we quickly get to John Mayer and make him get on board with the project?

I'm writing about all this from France right now. I'm flying to Canada next week-end to spend the holidays with family. I would only be about 5 hours away from Boston should this project get off the ground.

Can anyone think of some ways to get this thing going??

Due to their non-response, it seems his reps are not too keen on the idea.
