February 23, 2024

Germany’s lower house of parliament voted to legalize cannabis for limited recreational use on Friday despite warnings from the opposition and medical authorities.

The new rules mean adults can possess small amounts for personal use but the drug remains banned for under 18s.

In total, 407 German lawmakers voted in favor of the new regulation, 226 lawmakers voted against and four lawmakers abstained from Friday’s vote. The passage of the bill follows a controversial national debate about the pros and cons of allowing easier access to the drug.

The move makes Germany the third country in Europe – after Malta and Luxembourg – to legalize the drug for recreational use, removing cannabis from the official list of banned substances.

Where i am this legalization of Cannabis is causing more harm in the cities then good unfortunately.

You think it's a gateway drug or something like that? Better to have everything go underground again so we fill the prisons back up with weed dealers?

No, but WarriorLiberty is right. I don't have to support criminalizing it again to acknowledge the harm it's having. Much like alcohol or just about anything else for that matter, personal responsibility is required and that's a trait that is just few and far between these days. What gets me is how most places you would be easily fined for walking around drinking a beer, but smoking a joint around people is ignored.

How about just fining somebody for doing something wrong instead of criminalizing the act of smoking or drinking?

You're making the type of straw man argument that the left always makes. If I disagree with an action, or just support personal responsibility when it comes to the said action, I must be for sending men with guns to prevent you from doing those actions. I literally said in my second sentence that I don't support criminalizing it. WarriorLiberty is pointing out the issues legalization is having, and to have an honest conversation, that has to be discussed.

No, I would just like to see people let other people do things that don't hurt anybody else.

Some people put getting stoned before everything and it causes harm to others. Just like any other addiction or obsession does. I have been studying addiction for years. I have a family of addicts. Why did this happen to my family?I ran away from them for a log time. Then decided to go back. In many ways I wish I had not gone back. They have hurt the hell out of me. I have learned a lot.

My oldest brother passed away right before Christmas. His addiction was certainly the main cause of death. He was a good person. He tried really hard to get clean. He did have 12 years of sobriety At that time he was running a homeless shelter and helping people. He was doing really good during those years. He was pitiful by the time he died. He Oded(heart stopped) twice on fentanyl He was 3xs covidvaxxed. The last 2 years of his life he started drinking mouthwash and doing street drugs along with a prescription drug. When he was loaded he was abusive and violent with himself, family and others . I always wanted him to try just smoking pot but his doctor would drug test him and if came back positive for pot they would withhold his pain meds. His children have a lot of issues. Only one of his 4 children came to his funeral. He died a pathetic mass in an ICU unit. RIP my brother....

I take hemp sometimes to help me sleep. I never used to have trouble sleeping I guess because I worked my ass off for so many years. Now that there is less to do I don't burn up my energy like I used to.

I have smoked a lot of pot over the years. I have quit smoking pot for years at a time as well. Now I just smoke a little hemp bud when I need to and not every nite I I can make a gram of hemp bud last 2 months when I am using it to help me get more sleep. I stay in when I do it and I am not bothering any one when I do it. Still not allowed to grow hemp without a permit and all the bs that goes with it so technically to me at least it is not really legal. Screw it.
