German Police took off their helmets and marched with the people

Why is this in Grassroots? Ofcourse police will join an anti-capitalist movement. Who wants to bet that their superiors ordered them to perform this little skit?

Dude, that's just what a demonstration looks like around here. Police are there to make sure the demonstration sticks to their route, doesn't collide with traffic and everyone keeps the peace. And if it's peaceful they relieve themselves of their riot gear as much as possible, especially when it's a whooping 30°C in the afternoon. They don't side with either protesters or counter-protesters, they're just doing their job.

Whatever label folks choose to put on it or whatever ulterior motives there may be.....

The cops aren't kickin' the bejesus out of the protesters..

Baby steps......

Nice to see the police over there are peaceful .. unlike here.

Unlike the baton-happy US cops, German police has expensive training in riot/mass control and what to do to prevent violence in the first place rather than having everybody smash each other's heads in. If violence starts anyway, our cops are just as brutal or reasonable as cops everywhere else in the world.

Serious brah? Last time I checked Hitler made an appearance in that country. And even after that grand showdown they are still full blown socialists.

Ok, as someone who's studied contemporary Germany and lived there for a while, I beg you, please do not equate Germany today with Hitler or Nazi Germany. There is such a disconnect from then to now it's not funny. The cold war alone played itself out in the heart of Germany. WW2, Hitler and the Nazi are but a distant memory now.

Yes Germany are socialist, but they're not totalitarian on how they implement it, which is the key. Freedoms are preserved (with the exemption of wealth redistribution). Germany has done really well in comparison to the rest of Europe in the financial crisis. They have low debt and are against increasing it.

SO so so much this!

This.

They believe the problem is capitalism, but it is really corporatism, and that is what they are actually protesting.

Since we protest the same thing, I believe we should join forces, and make an attempt to educate them when the battle is won.

"Liberals" and Libertarians really do have common values when it comes to civil liberties and foreign policy. It's a matter of explaining how capitalism is not the problem though! ;)

The anarchists and democrats fought together with the Bolsheviks against the Czar only to be executed when the fight was over.

bingo. regardless of the motivation behind the march, it's always encouraging to see a government force that shares something other than a desire to pummel their civilian neighbors.

Germany is very sensitive to accusations of tyrannical behavior. It's actually been beaten into their heads over there how awful they were as a country because of Hitler 70 years ago, so now there is a lot of self-hatred and a very anti-imperialistic spirit there.
