Georgia Senate race contenders?

Forget it. There's no viable candidates for us here.

Concerntrate on SC and Lindsey Graham. Politico story today mentioned that his seat is one the GOP is worrying about re: a primary, along with Mitch McConnell. Though I think McConnell is safe.

Paul Broun is probably the best we'll get. But I don't think Saxby will be dethroned.

Paul Broun is quite good. If social issues (gay marriage, abortion, etc.) are important to you then he's not your guy, but fiscally he's terrific, and he also voted for Smith-Amash.

I can't imagine a Georgia Republican supporting equality and women's rights, since most Democrats and Independents in GA don't.

The fact that he's from Gingrich-land and he's not a neocon is a major point in his favor, in my opinion.

I concur. I'm not convinced we'll ever have a Paulitician in the Deep South. (or specifically GA-AL-MS)

Any of the challengers will be better than Saxby Chambliss. He voted for the bailout, he's a big time champion of farm subsidies, he fought hard against F-22 fighter cuts because Georgia would lose some jobs etc.

What if the guy who replaces him did the exact same thing?

Broun is really the only plausible "sort of" liberty candidate challenger, but of the plausible challengers, i think he's probably the least likely to emerge. More likely it will be a big government necon just like Chamblis, just one who won't vote for taxes or amnesty. It will be nice to see Chamblis lose, but unless Broun emerges as his challenger, we shouldn't waste too much effort helping to make it happen.

Thanks for clarifying because SC is without a doubt part of the deep South.

A Ron Paul Republican ran in GA. He lost badly.

I'm well aware.

Charles Gregory is supposedly one of us and was endorsed by a number of Liberty sites. Since he ran unopposed, we will get a chance to see if he is pure, and a possible candidate for Congress in the future.

The problem is that it's nearly impossible to beat an incumbant. Not impossible, but very hard to do. I don't know if the liberty movement funding base is large enough to do more than one major race per cycle.

That is pretty much where I am at. I think SC is the best shot. It is a favorable environment, with a fairly well known potential candidate, plus some other national groups are already looking for a reason to jump in. Other than that we need to hopefully field viable good liberty candidates in races where incumbents retire.

Charlie is definitely one of us.

Paul Broun would be an upgrade and he is fiscally sound AND popular in GA.
