I have posted this to several threads and no one has ever responded. I say that if Gay marriage is A-OK then incest laws need to be addressed. Father son, Brother/brother, Mother/daughter, Sister/sister! Obviously all parties would have to be consenting adults. What is your opinion????? Understand that I am a heterosexual married male with 4 kids that has no interest in sleeping with my son.

To be clear, are we talking incestuous relations which were only made illegal because of the children they produce or incestuous marriages?

I think it fundamentally destroys the concept of marriage if a father can marry his daughter. For what purpose would they need a marriage? They can have as much consenting sex as they desire, can live together, etc.

So no, I do not support said marriages. I am not against brother/sister marriages as they were highly effective in the past.

To be clear, marriage is between consenting adults. So while I could never tolerate some of these incest combinations, it shouldn't be illegal.

It's a bad idea generally because the offspring tend to have genetic defects, but I don't really care. It used to be cool for European royalty...which is how they got "blue blood". I certainly wouldn't do it...nor would I endorse it. /shudders

I suppose if one 'thinks' marriage between consenting adults of the same sex is deviant, then i can understand why one would 'think' marrying your son or daughter would be deviant as well.

Why can't government discriminate? Historically it always has.

Society generally makes laws that parallel it's social norms. Our society in the US has evolved to accept same sex marriage but not incest. Why is that wrong?

Because marriage is a religious institution and none of the government's damn business.

That does not mean society or the law is right.

Leaving the "mob is right" argument aside for minute, what valid legal reason can you come up with that would prohibit mulitiple marriages or incestual marriages, but not homosexual ones?

I don't see a problem with multiple marriages. Incest causes genetic problems.

Sex acts with animals, children etc. are deviant behaviors, and there are already laws on the books for this. You would have to try and get gay sex between consenting adults on the no-no list of laws of deviant behavior.....better get busy. Good luck.

Well, there are anti-sodomy laws in several states IIRC.

Not necessarily. People would just do those things as individuals instead of as couples.
