Wouldn't it be great if instead of Ron Paul vs Romney,Huckabee,Palin, etc...it were Ron Paul vs Gary Johnson?

People like to be able to choose between two things..."which do you like better, X or Y?".

If we could make the 2012 election season seem like the Republican race is between Ron Paul and Gary Johnson...then we've already won.

If you start talking about Ron Paul and they start saying things like "ya, Ron Paul's good and all but...", just say..."well the other guy that's running, Gary Johnson,....".

Or do phone polling, "In the race for the 2012 Republican primaries, who do you like better? Ron Paul or Gary Johnson?". Treat them like they're the only ones running.

It would be good, but i don't trust ANY politician besides Ron Paul...even Gary Johnson.

Yeaw that would be great but if that was the case the country wouldn't have any problems because the electorate would be so intune to a real small government position.
This kind of statement is much like "wouldn't it be nice if we could all just get along."
RP will be fighting and scraping for every last vote in those eary primary states to get the 20 to 25 percent of the vote necessary to win. Almost every voter that votes for GJ would as a second choice vote for RP. The republican party comprises of about 15 percent libertarian republican and the rest split up between religious right, neocon and liberal republican.
From those last three branches RP is going to be hard pressed to pry any votes away from Huck Palin, Newt, or Rudy. They have 85% to devide up between themselves. Anybody that closely matches RP will be dividing up those 15 percent libertarian Republicans.

Gary Johnson isn't Ron Paul. You could probably get Gary Johnson folks to do the GJ part, and RP folks would automatically do the RP part.

I'm on the RP side.

Yeah, it would be awesome if they were the only candidates running :D

I'd like to see them both run so they can both represent in the early debates, but have one drop out and endorse the other right before the first primary so as to consolidate the voters

Yeah, one day the primaries will consist solely of people like RP, GJ, etc. and they'd all be arguing about who can stand up for liberty the best. Ahh, what a pleasant dream! :D

Yes, but they'll be the Libertarian Party primaries and won't count for anything. ;)

Ron Paul 2012. Gary Johnson has a chance to pick up the hard core libertarians and a lot of students who are for pro immigration and anti-drug war. People on my campus have already started campaigning for Gary Johnson.

I think he has a chance to get some delegates to edge Ron Paul along. If Johnson can get even 5 percent of the total vote, that would be a boost for Ron during the convention. The convention will be split into many factions. You will see a lot of dirty tricks going on in order delegates and get one of the big guys to win like Palin, Romney, or Huckabee. The others will be promised vice presidencies. I don't think Johnson would be a good vp choice though IF Ron wants to win.

Curious why you think that. If anything were to happen to Paul, I think Johnson is more than competent to step in. Peter Schiff as Sec. Treasurer, Tom Woods as Press Secretary, and Napolitano as Attorney General. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

I grow weary of this Johnson vs Paul speculation in a thousand threads. Let's just wait and see who ends up running.

The MORE liberty voices the better. I think Gary Johnson could mimic a lot of Paul's talking points in the debate or expand or answer a question Paul may not get asked. We cried about the amount of TV time for Ron Paul in the last election but remember folks: this is a revolution in ideas. It's not about the person, it's about the message. Ron Paul needs to pass that torch at some point, if Gary gets up there, he may not in 2012, but he may in 2016.

We need all the time we can get on air to hear the liberty message. I hope Ron, Gary, Rand, and Peter Schiff all run for President. Let's get as many liberty-minded candidates on the stage that they will allow. Remember: they can always drop out or suspend the campaign before the primary. Then put their endorsement into one candidate. The idea of liberty is too big to fail. Freedom is popular.

I'll vote for Gary Johnson in a nano second.....IF Ron Paul isn't on the ballot. Ron Paul is curing people's apathy, not Gary Johnson, he's great but a distant second to the good Dr.
