I met with Gary for a couple hours at his new mansion in Taos, New Mexico, and got confirmation of his interest in running for the 2012 presidency. Like Dr. Paul, the former Governor is a big believer in vetoing unconstitutional laws, and doing everything to allow individuals to pursue their happiness in most any way. Progressives should like his tolerance for alternative lifestyles, and conservatives should like his high standards for govt efficiency and support for local innovative govt solutions.

Cool - draftgaryjohnson.com should commence soon so he knows we support him

If you would like, please make a detailed case for Johnson in the thread on who we should draft in 2012 Planning section of the board, and please volunteer to take one of the positions should Johnson win.

Awesome! We could really position ourselves well if we can get a firm commitment out of the former Gov. sometime next year or sooner. Then, it will be up to us to hit it as hard as we can with name recognition.

is he committed to spend the time it takes to campaign over the next few years. We can't have a part time candidate. It just makes things so much more difficult.

He has little else to do. That is one problem with Ron Paul when he ran, he spent most of his time on Capital Hill. Gary Johnson is independently wealthy and will have plenty of time to campaign hard.

yeah, apparently he spends his time bicycling, picking up trash, and climbing mountains

Once again.......

FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if he is interested in running and we are serious about backing him then he needs to figure out a way to get into the mainstream news, like now. we can't afford to wait until primaries to try to get media attention. i would argue that was paul's biggest downfall. no one knew who the hell he was

He needs to run NATIONAL ads as soon as the race starts in 2011 - that way, people will immediately know who he is and that he is a viable candidate

some republicans still never heard of ron paul...

true, a "who is Gary Johnson?" blimp isn't going to solve our problem. :D

he will need a lot of money and need it EARLY. I think 30 million will be a good start. He also needs to start to line up endorsements and a network of support. Remember when McCain started getting endorsements from everyone which pushed him over the top?

I think we could raise 10-15 million for Congressional campaigns in 2010 and 30+ million for the beginning of the 2012 campaign. But it is hard to do all at once. we need to do it over time.

The good thing about the mid-term elections is that if we can get some Liberty candidates elected, we will have additional support for the Presidential election. When you can get many influential people campaigning for you on your behalf, it makes such a HUGE difference.

Good plan.
It will take a lot of work though to keep people motivated.
