In the latest CNN/ORC Poll, he is registering enough of a following to possibly tip the balance in an increasingly close election.

Three percent of likely voters responded that they would vote for Johnson, the Libertarian Party’s candidate for president, in November. That number is slightly higher among registered voters, with 4% identifying with the former governor of New Mexico.

The poll also finds that Johnson’s inclusion, along with the Green Party’s candidate Jill Stein, hurts Republican candidate Mitt Romney more than it does President Barack Obama.

What percent is required to get in the debates?

In theory, 15%. The Commission could always change the rules. Maybe 25%?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commission_on_Presidential_Debates
The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) began in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties to establish the way that presidential election debates are run between candidates for President of the United States. The Commission is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation as defined by Federal US tax laws,[1] whose debates are sponsored by private contributions from foundations and corporations.[2]

The Commission sponsors and produces debates for the United States presidential and vice presidential candidates and undertakes research and educational activities relating to the debates. The organization, which is a nonprofit corporation controlled by the Democratic and Republican parties, has run each of the presidential debates held since 1988. The Commission has moderated the 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 debates. Prior to this, the League of Women Voters moderated the 1976, 1980, 1984 debates before it withdrew from the position as debate moderator with this statement after the 1988 Presidential debates: "the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter." The Commission was then taken over by the Democratic and Republican parties forming today's version of the CPD.

The Commission is headed by Frank Fahrenkopf, a former head of the Republican National Committee, and former Massachusetts Senator Paul Kirk, a former head of the Democratic National Committee. Under the leadership of these two former heads of party, the CPD established a rule that for a party to be included in the national debates it must garner at least 15% support across five national polls. This rule is considered controversial as most Americans tune in to the televised national debates and hear only the opinions of two parties instead of the 10 or so parties that are actually running for President of the United States.

A May poll compared to a September poll might not be a completely fair comparison.

But anyway, I'm really having trouble understanding how that many people can poll for someone and then change their minds when it comes time to actually vote. 6% to 0.4%? That means 6.67% of the 6% who claimed to support him pre-election actually ended up voting for him. That's insane.

6% or more probably prefer GJ. but as the election gets closer voters gravitate to one of the two leaders.

but the way Romney is making mistakes ??

Unless there is some event that changes things, at this point I see Obama winning.

I could really care less who wins.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. With all the lies Romney has told there is no way to know that he is the lesser of two evils. They could both be equally evil as well. Those cheering for one side or the other are mostly dupes.

It definately sounds like the Fair Taxers have gotten to Johnson, unfortunately.

Expect CNN, MSNBC, etc to put Johnson out there from time to time, because he takes votes away from Romney. Fox would do the same if Jill Stein had more name recognition since she would take votes away from Obama.

At the end of the day, my guess is that Johnson will get that same 1/2 percent that LP candidates typically get. It's a vanity candidacy and nothing more.

I heard a news report that the two candidates are trying to distinguish each other from each other especially in the swing states. Never heard anything more funnier nor more true. LOL.

Even at half a percent, in tight "toss up state" races that RMoney must win, it could be enough to make the difference.

Me?

No One But Paul.
