Gary Johnson Gary endorses Ron Paul on the front page of his campaign site

Not only that, the man would make a nice running mate for Paul.

Paul/Johnson against Obama/Biden, it wouldn't even be a contest, they would both get their rear-ends handed to them in all the debates.

Anyone else here think he would make a good VP candidate for Paul?

I talked with Gary about this in person when I met him at CPAC 2011. Gary said that picking a VP should be to "broaden" his base of support. What I took from that was it should be someone who isn't identical to Ron in who his support is and should expand it into the Republican party. This is why I think the Judge is still the best VP pick because he garners a lot of respect from the more "moderate" repubs (although I still am not 100% sure as to why).

It was the right thing to do and I commend him on it.

Still don't like Gary though, can't get over the pro-abortion stance. I could never vote for someone who supports abortion but calls themselves a defender of liberty.

I never got this "Gary and Ron have a problem re: abortion" thing. Both men, though they have a difference of opinion on morality, advocate IDENTICAL policy on the issue - devolve to the states. That said, the Libertarian Party has a long history of being pro-choice. I'm personally pro-life, but it's not a watershed libertarian issue.

Yes. Unfortunately, he said when he first announced he wasn't interested in the position, and I'm scared he'll stand by that. Don't want him to, but he does tend to stand by his statements. So, we'll see if that is even a possibility.

You can't go by what people say when they announce for President. No Presidential candidate is going to say that they're willing to serve as another's VP. Gary did the next best thing, however, and endorsed RP as his VP on stage at a debate.

I dont see it either

It's on the splash donate page before you click through to the site's "official" main page. Gary's latest video also talks about him and Ron in a positive light while denigrating the other candidates.

I don't know, man. Biden is pretty tough and experienced. I honestly think he'd eat Gary for lunch.

Yeah. I'd lay odds on Biden against a number of possible VPs. Biden would run circles around any of his opponents. Peter Schiff or Rand Paul are the only two that could hold their own against him.

If he were to get fully behind Ron Paul and show it overtly, he'd have most of us supporting him after 8 years of Ron's presidency.

Patience Gary...Patience...

GaryJohnson2020! That, I can get behind.

Gary is extremely good in a debate, and extremely well versed in all of the important issues. Biden is a windbag.

Na, dude was a pile of nerves in the first GOP debate, and didn't answer with anything but the Fair Tax and a riff handed to him from the internet in his other appearance. He was weak in his appearance on Special Report, too. He'd get butchered by Biden.

He's not terrible, but I'd need someone to be more versed in Austrian theory before I would consider backing them.

I agree, GJ is very overrated. He is not good at econ and not a good speaker at all. He lulls me to sleep every time.

Why do ppl here like this guy?

In Gary's defense, he's better than pretty much everyone else who considered running this year (of those who were to run on a big party ticket, at least), and on the whole, he's somewhere above Mike Lee and near Rand, if not equal to him.

I don't share your sleepiness. Gary has, before his presidential run, been a great speaker and an awesome debater. You should have seen some of his debates when he held office or advocated with MPP after his terms in office. However, this Presidential campaign has shown a wishy-washy Gary Johnson. Can't tell you what's happened to the guy b/c I haven't spoken to him since before he announced, but he's a little too muppet-like lately.

However, Ron Paul has quite a few debate and speaking shortcomings as well which are about equal in gravity to Gary Johnson's. So glass houses on that one.

I don't see anything of the kind on his website. I heard that Gary Johnson would be the least libertarian of any candidate from the LP. Who else is running for the lp nomination? I think a deeper look into the other candidates is in order for sure before making any decisions.

That gets my vote for most prudent idea.
