Just got off the phone with some peeps from Maine. Romney showing up in Maine has backfired. The buzz FROM NON-RON PAUL supporters is that there are a lot of Mainers talking about how "Romney is trying to save face" by showing up at the Portland caucus. He could be dead on arrival.

GOTV and we can win this!

It would be very interesting if delegates react negatively. It's an "Oh, NOW you need us?" kind of attitude. People may feel annoyed with the implicit assumption of being expected to help salvage his campaign.

Well if the non-Ron Paul people don't like what Mitt is doing, then I assume that's good for Santorum and not us. Am I missing something here?

Romney most likely never wanted to go, he was purely told to do it to stop Ron, or at least TRY to. ME is a state that if you win, ...well, you win, and that is that. Pretty much considered a state that follows what goes on elsewhere , considering the small voting bloc. Of course, a good portion of delegates to grab up, small bloc or not, but no major frontrunner would usually ever bother in the past. Romney making a mad dash up there, makes him look like a desperate fool, and also to the ones who know how 'the game' works, like a desperate fool trying to stop Ron Paul.

That is probably the likely outcome, but id rather the votes go to Rick or Newt, as they too far behind to make a dent to catch Ron.

you just made me giggle! NICE!

GOTV MOFOS!!!

Yeah, Ron stumped like a normal candidate a week ago. Romney's dash to the finish is pretty transparent.

I'm surprised that sentiment hasn't come up sooner, like in Iowa. Romney blew Iowa off all year until December, and they still almost handed him a win there.

Well in the Lewiston area it is abuzz with Ron Paul (positive) because he picked them to speak to. Romney will be speaking in Portland (a college town USM has campuses there). We need those college kids to go and vote and we could pull an upset there too.

Paul already won a county and a city Romney won last time. I think Santorum will get a bump, but he is at the very bottom looking up, the bump might not be big enough.

Santorum could pick up some votes, because his message of returning jobs to small town America can play there. Outside of Portland, Maine is dotted with struggling towns that never really participated in the 1990s boom times.

But he won't get the HUGE spike that the Evangelicals gave him in the Midwest.

There are only so many votes to go around, and with Paul pulling 40%+ and Romney pulling at least 21, there's not enough votes left even if won by a single candidate to best Paul in that scenario. The rose is falling off the Romney bloom at just the right time.

Does Romney even have a hand to play as an underdog candidate, being by far the best-financed?

Most rural areas are already going for Paul, earlier he won a very rural county. We need to pick up the cities.

Or he could personally bribe each and every one of them to vote for him with some hard cold cash. With over 200 million he can afford to let some of it go.

One thing I do to motivate the urban youth vote is to remind them that if we get into another big war it's their ass, not mine, which is getting drafted into it.

please keep in mind...what some of these people are saying might or might not represent general sentiment towards romney visiting maine.

regardless....GOT (mf'ing) V

seriously - people changing votes based on whether and when the guy visits them?

I'm really not surprised, but jumpin' hornytoads.
