Friend the Pope on Facebook and earn "Time off Purgatory"

I agree with you. And I wish they had stayed away from mentioning anything about social media in talking about being able to receive an indulgence.

This is the problem with a central head and not one of communion. For if one in the communion makes an error or uses poor judgment, his brothers can correct him and the Church remains undefiled.

We also know that if the head is rotten, then so is the remainder.

This is true also in politics and business, and almost every other thing which becomes centralized. (Think Federal Reserve). As long as man sins, centralization with anything other then God is insufficient. That is why there is no Head of the Church other then God Himself.

The good news is that maybe this will lead some to confession and seek forgiveness of their sins and increase their faith in Christ. If this is so, then let us celebrate these victories.

That is what I am hoping for as well!

This is simply not true.

If righteousness is by faith alone, indulgences have no purpose. They serve only to build the charlatan's coffers.

Well it is and isn't. When Luther first began he wasn't trying to break with the Catholic Church and he wasn't against indulgences in theory. Over time, as he developed his own theology though, and as he was more and more violently rejected by the Church, he rejected it.

Yes, I did read the small print added to placate the Traditionalists and the heterodox (importantly, the Orthodox). Nevertheless, their message was not about the mystery of confession, but the power of the Vatican.

Alan was a Zen Buddhist, hardly a religion started by him.

This man most definitely has started his own religion. Perhaps it is the Church of Alan Watts? He is after all, the creator of it. Do you know what the name of it is?

Replied to the wrong quote, this is the right one.
