In Croatia (and rest of Europe more or less) this is on all news:
Risk of 'Accidental' Gulf War on the Rise
This is one of few newspapers in Europe that got distinctive reputation and it is one of the largest publications in Europe.

.....made up of the American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, a guided missile cruiser, two destroyers, the British frigate HMS Argyll and the French frigate La Motte-Picquet. All of them were sailing west through the Strait of Hormuz toward the Persian Gulf. The US military already refers to this zone as a "theater," a possible scene of combat...

This is good article for all of you who would like to see objective article and reporting.

My question:

If Iran wants to inflict injury on US so much (that is even suicidal) wouldnt all those warships be just perfect target for those "crazy" mullahs? All they have to do launch all their missiles, torpedoes and rockets from their ships, coast and submarines in surprise attack? It wouldnt be hard at all. Those ships and submarines are already next to each others. I am no general but i would be reasonably sure that all of those ships would be destroyed.
Presence of US English and French ships is proof that NATO leaders dont think Iran mullahs are crazy or suicidal extremists....even if they (US UK and French) tell everyone that they(Iran) is crazy.

Situation in Persian Gulf is really strange. You got US, UK, French and Irans Navy warships and submarines in each others eyesight and leaders of countries are portraying each others as "crazy", "terrorist", "extremist", "devils", "unpredictable"... but fact that they are all there says that they expect that other side is normal and rational.

This is going to sound awful, and may be a sign of defeat, but I wish they would hurry up and attack Iran...

It seems imminent. I just hope they do it "right" and drop the bombs and get the heck out. No nation building.

I know that sounds terrible, but there is literally nothing we can do.

Another undeclared war would be good for the campaign. I'm just sayin'.

Considering Russia already weighed in and said that they would not stand idly by if we attacked Iran, I would say it is something we want to avoid at all cost. I would be more worried about a false flag attack on one of the ships.

We can certainly get into the hypotheticals revolving all this, but now only time will tell.

I don't know what Russia would do, exactly, at this point. They can't afford war, either. Although it is as you said, they've stated that it is not in our interests to attack Iran.

A false flag can take care of that, though.

don't think so, not right away; first there would be months of patriotic fervor ; reality and $10 gas might bring reality by November. but not August

Yes, keep an eye on the USS Enterprise that is planning to be decommissioned soon!!

Yeah exactly. The US is much weaker than it was 10 years ago, so countries like Russia are going to be emboldened to retaliate in some form. It's nuts on parade and it's scary.

would we bomb the french ship and blame it on Iran? Churchill had no qualms...

Chruchill also had no qualms about gassing the Kurdish people either: "I do not understand this sqeamishness about the use of gas. I am strongly in favour of using poison gas against uncivilised tribes."

Jesus Christ, When the neo-cons use things of this nature for political gain they are evil, when it benefits us it's somehow acceptable, This is lives being lost for the gain of political power... It's wrong no matter what. I hope and pray that this war doesn't start. A conflict with Iran at this point sends a clearer message to the middle east than ever, "you will comply or you will be targeted" the result will be equivocal with declaring war on Islam and they would have an intelligible argument!

....in similar news, President Obama now fully embraces the Bush doctrine as he meets with the former President over beers.

I have a cousin in the Navy who tracks Iranian subs, he definitely said to me get ready for ww3 on facebook chat several months back, I guess he wasn't lying...

If Iran is attacked they only have to sink ships carrying crude oil to shut down the Strait of Hormuz -- they would be foolish to attack the US and/or other military ships. They have mobile Exocet missiles to do the job. They could keep the water way closed and demand the world compensate them for any damages caused by any attack on their country. The cost to the Western economies will be enormous -- it could result in a world-wide financial disaster.

What all this translates to politically is that Obama is preparing for the general election and needs a fresh new war complete with some shock and awe to be able to reelected while unemployment is still sky high and America is by far closer to bankrupt than ever before.

--Clinton adviser Robert Shapiro told the Financial Times that Obama’s presidency can only be rescued by another terror attack.

“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership. He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”
