Free Range 80s Kids Playing Bicycle Tag Helmet Free

Wow. Can actually remember playing something like this. Did my hair really look that goofy parted down the middle?

We played "one pump." It was basically a war game where we shot at each other with BB guns, but you could only pump it once for safety reasons of course.

We also regularly played a game called "smear the queeer". The way we played it, one person would drop kick a football, soccer ball etc. Into the air and then it was every kid for himself to get the ball and run with it. Then everyone would chase and tackle him. Once tackled, that kid would drop kick the ball and it started all over. The "smear" part came in if someone did something cowardly such as dropping the ball or not catching it in the first place. That kid was given the ball and then dogpiled.

We also played tackle football and sometimes a soccer game would turn into something similar to rugby. I miss those days.

When I was growing up kids in this end of the country had no idea what else to do with a soccer ball but pick it up and run until tackled.

"What do you mean I can't touch it?"

We called this "Kill the guy." We would play at recess and the lunch monitors wouldn't bother us.

Unfortunately "smear the queeer" died out in the very early 90s, for obvious reasons.
