A gift for y'all!!!!

For anyone who believes in the power of the free market to govern itself while catapulting mankind progress forward, your understanding is probably difficult for folks who don't have your belief to grasp.

You're familiar with the melody in this conversation:
"In a free market, greedy businessmen will swindle the consumer
"In a free market, what's to stop corporations from selling harmful products and services?
"In a free market, all sorts of nasties will happen: monopolies, price gauging, etc etc etc

Sometimes the conversation doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Until you talk about pie ;)

I want to share this moment because it might help all y'all who rally for a free market:

I was having this conversation with a friend of mine ... it was going similarly to every conversation we've had about free markets and regulation. Her justifications for a regulated market (of any extent) were coming from a place of fear of what would happen without regulation.

I was rallying for the free market and, since there isn't a fresh memory about the success of a free market in our generation, most of my justifications were coming from a place of conjecture backed by logic.

This time, however, the conversation took a different direction than concluding at "let's agree to disagree".

It was time to strip away all illusions and cut to the essence of things. So we framed the entire discussion around PIE!! It was an absolute BREAKTHROUGH!! While she still holds on to the notion that some regulation can be had, she now understands why a free market can lead to unprecedented American prosperity, and help her achieve all the warm fuzzy humanitarian wishes she has for the world.

I wrote an article to build on this idea and would like to share it with all y'all. It is my intention that this framework can assist you in your own conversations as much as it did for me ;)
