Fred Thompson Quits!!!

Conservatives who have been holding on waiting for a miracle from Hunter or Thompson now have to choose to either get behind Ron or Mitt or risk letting McCain or Huckabee tear the party apart.

Good news for Huck. I hear every vote for Fred was a vote taken from Huck. This should make the race a real mess and benefit to RP.

I am happy he is out. My prayers are with him and his ill mother.

Bollocks. Plenty of Fred's support is from fiscal conservatives who hate Huckabee about as much as Hillary.

Maybe the rank and file Conservatives will finally see that only Ron Paul is the successor of Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan.

Statement from Sen. Fred Thompson

McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson today issued the following statement about his campaign for President:

"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people."

I heard Thompson has not endorsed anyone. Some assume he will back McCain because he did in 2000. The last week or 2 Thompson was starting to quote RP, alot. Maybe he will surprise everyone and stand behind our man, Ron Paul!

I hope the Fred supporters move in our direction... atleast some of them.

Ron Paul was the second choice of the Fred supporters I know. I just contacted one of them to see what he thought and he had not heard the news yet. He thought I was kidding. I can confirm 3 more votes for Ron Paul for sure. These guys were on the fence...leaning Thompson.

Tancredo endorsed Mitt, but we probably got most of his supporters. Maybe the same will happen with Fred.

Attrition is good at this stage while there is no clear "winner". Dr. Paul should now poll higher as there are fewer pieces of the candidate pie. Running an efficient campaign and demonstrating stability is imperative to our cause. If the media wishes to portray Dr. Paul as unelectable, formerly labled "front runners" leaving the race due to lack of results and funds will serve as fodder for our campaign, especially in debates.

I fully expect Rudy Giuliani to quit the race if he loses to John McCain in Florida. John McCain will pickup steam from a Rudy endorsement, but will not have the resources to claim victory over Romney at that point nor the evangelical support necessary to win against Huckabee in the bible-belt. In summation, the future looks chaotic for the media ordained "front runners", while Dr. Paul will continue to poll better and raise money handsomely. The juxtaposition of "front runner" chaos vs. Ron Paul stability will be to our benefit.

Thompson delegates in the state processes in WV need to be courted by others in WV. Same with Iowa, Nevada and other states that don't have straight primaries.
