Luntz is a scumbag, but he makes some good points in the video about other topics. At least he admits that what he does is deception. I think his opinions can give us some good insight since his profession is doing these stupid polls.

I think Luntz is a linguistic genius, and having seen him up close at a few gatherings, he doesn't seem like a scumbag. He's really good at what he does.

He understands the connotative effects of language as well as anyone in the world, and his book, Words that Work, is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand political messaging (cough, cough, that's us folks).

His point about liberty is a good one, and I agree to some extent that his basic point - freedom is personal, liberty is ideological - might have some bearing for some of the electorate. Maybe most of it.

One thing I think Luntz misses, however, is that a candidate who talks about "liberty" is sending a signal to people who are of a libertarian/constitutionalist worldview (in a Republican primary, at least 10-20%), and that is a "codeword" that this might be someone who thinks like they themselves do.

It is an interesting point and one, frankly, that I haven't considered. Myself, I have always preferred to use liberty, but for some reason, now that I think about it, I realize that I use "freedom" more when around mainstream Republicans. Hmmm... never really thought about this.

Interesting.

I agree with you, but he has done some pretty deceptive reporting on Fox...

He does seem very honest though lol

Luntz is a turd. We don't need any advice from him. Let him be a deceptive little troll all by himself. F YOU FRank!

PS. I didn't watch the video yet.

The guy just talks out of his ass. He's not even good at being deceptive.

You can always learn, even from people you don't like, and especially is this true in politics.

So you are making your opinion based off nothing. Some people here amaze me refusing to every be fair, honest or even take something by itself or its worth. You automatically discredit anything he says and you don't even watch the video.

You are no better than people that make their opinion about Ron Paul having a flawed foreign policy without having listened to him in any length talk about it.

Seriously, it is unintelligent.

I already know what he's going to say. If he has something to teach you, well, then that's your problem. I tried to watch it, but I just can't stand his way.
btw, you can't compare Ron Paul to this clown.

omg I watched it. Happy now? I stand corrected. Frank Luntz is not smart at all. He's a bullshitter.

He wasn't. Way to miss the point.

Santorum's rise coincided with his talk of freedom, liberty, and the Constitution.

So... yeah. Nice call Frank.

Fuck you.

Actually if you want to the win the GOP you have to play it differently as you in WA Liberty isn't liked by the War Monger Romney Suppose Magically Voters

But they should've gotten that now. We aren't introducing Ron Paul to a public who is completely unaware of who he is at this point. People, in March 2012, who are of a libertarian/constitutionalist worldview, should know that Ron Paul is one of them. He has made the sale to them.

If someone thinks that feeding us red meat is unnecessary and counterproductive, that might be right, to some degree. He could moderate the rhetoric to try to win over new people, or get even more hard core, in hopes that more inspiring rhetoric will inspire people so much that they'll actually register and vote. Or keep it the same.

Yeah, Liberty is a bad, bad word and a terrible concept. We should all just give on it and stop talking about it to fit in with the power structure. NOT

Part of the problem in politics, is this massive invitation invited to debate semantics over words. We end up mixing rhetoric and ideals over favorable usages of what and which word.

Honest answers are by far the best, something Frank may never understand.
