Fox News Poll - Rand in 4th with 9% (Ties 1st for 2nd choice)

I agree with this as well, I just figured that those supporting Bush are the 65+ crowd.
yeah they have been brainwashed by the media and believe that because they voted for him twice if they vote against him they are voting against themselves. They think that Iraq and Iran are going to bomb us because they think America is the best and they lived through real war some by proxy. They think the only reason why we lived through the cold war is because we carved out the middle east and spent the most on our military. While the under 35 crowd lived through two iraq wars and know that their government has lied to us and we don't feel it was under the best intentions.

That's why we have to play politics stake the middle ground and say yeah i agree isis /radical islam need to be stopped and that's why we want to declare war galvanize the troops to make sure we get all of the support we can from the international community, work together in conjunction with our allies to stop people from ever trying to hurt us. Otherwise we will be labeled isolationists and be shut out of the primary. After the primary nonintervention vs the hawks will be fair game we just need the nomination and the older crowd will vote for the nominee regardless of his name being Paul.

Americans for Prosperity?

Yes.

They also supported Scott Walker, and were very active in WI during the recall elections.

Looks nice but too early to say much about anyone. Candidates rise and fall in a matter of weeks. One of those guys polling under 5% will surge to 15% or above at some point in time. Get a prime time debate or two in and then it will get interesting.

That guy is a wackobird.. sexuality is something people can choose because people get raped in jail and being raped makes those people gay because they engage in gay sex in jail. I can't really say that he is right or wrong on this issue because he seems to know more about brains than I do and I'm torn because he is technically correct. I tend not to judge other peoples views on sexuality but i do tend to judge people who will.

First, conservatives really like conservative blacks, as it doubley rebukes Obama without giving the left an inch on their "white men" and "racist" cards.

Any truth to the rumors that J.C. Watts was going to endorse Rand Paul?

I haven't seen these results on Fox yesterday or today. Anyone else?

As for Carson, the guy is a gaffe machine. He has also never held public office. That might appeal to some (an outsider), but when it comes down to crunch time, how many are going to back a political novice? Especially when the prevailing wisdom seems to be we need a governor, someone with a lot of executive experience.

I hope jmdrake was correct in his opinion that Carson's run is less about becoming president and more about exposing people to his religion.

I'm a Seventh-day Adventist, as is jmdrake. If Carson is really trying to promote his religion, he's doing it in a very funny way. The proper way to do it is through evangelism, not through secular politics. You cannot bring people to God through legislative action. I think he's confused. I hope he sees the error in his ways.

I didn't say promoting his religion; I said exposing people to his religion. And it isn't about using secular politics but media. He gets press, and coverage and people like what he says and he seems like a nice guy, they look into his background and find out about his religion. In much the same way that Romney running exposed millions of more people to Mormonism.

So this poll differs from the recent Wall Street Journal poll, where Rand is tied for first.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves--Rand isn't going to be topping the polls anytime soon.

Honestly, every time that he does until the debates I would be marking that poll as an outlier. We don't have the money to combat all the negatives that will be tossed out until his arguments win on the stage. We are praying to stay in the top 5, ideally sticking to the double digits. In other words, Top Tier. The opposite of fringe.

I took a quick look at it further and found an interesting factoid. Whereas Ted Cruz and Scott Walker run away with the Tea Party constituency, with Rand and Carson being the only guys solidly following up, in the 2nd Choice category he instead leads the pack. Tossing the 1st and 2nd choices together you get something that looks like this for the Tea Party:

Walker -- 30%
Cruz -- 29%
Paul -- 25%
Carson -- 19%

This is the grassroots core. I've seen some moaning on here lately about folks seeing Carson and Cruz bumper stickers everywhere...well, we're still in that game too, and I think that bodes well for the Caucuses once the unserious contenders get out of the way.

Additionally, he leads by a whopping 6% with the under $50k crowd; the only person to hit the double digits in this category.
Rand isn't strong in any single group that matters, but the breadth of his likability is fascinating.

By looking at the trends lately of strong 2nd Choice showings and his seeming ownership of Independents, it is no wonder that he is displaying remarkable strength in General Election match-ups yet appears mediocre in the Primary. While he usually tops the charts among top tier GOP candidates for 'Would Not Vote For', he also doesn't appeal to those constituents in the slightest. The ones that he courts at all seem to think he is at the very least 'Good Enough'....which is really all we can ask for at this point.

Pushing the "I am realistically the only one who can beat Hillary, and I really do support your Values" meme and in tandem not pissing off other Candidates Supporters I feel will go a long way towards stabilizing his positives until the debates hit.
