for G.O.P., Support for Israel Becomes New Litmus Test

Crazy! I'm getting tired of the unconditional devotion towards a foreign government. Love for your fellow man is one thing, but a government isn't a man and doesn't need constant devotion. What I can't understand is how these people can be totally fine with criticizing their own country (which is completely OK to do), but they can't turn around and criticize Israel.

When it comes to Israel, they just seem to turn their political analysis off for fear of damnation or something.

It is damnation, at least once you get inside the power structure, whether local, state or national, in the sense that the establishment conclave (if you attend conventions and party functions you know what I mean by the "establishment conclave"...they're almost cultish) will ostracize you or work to prevent you from gaining influence if you don't profess obedience to the Israeli lobby. It's pretty well documented that AIPAC works to purge people that don't genuflect. That's been the case for a long time. Now, it appears you must publicly profess this obedience at party functions as a litmus test, indeed.

That pressure she speaks of has reached all the way down to neighborly party functions. The thing the members of the "conclave" fear the most is no longer being part of the "conclave", so they toe the line, even if forced. Fear of exile is a powerful tool.

It's not new, and it's not even real. It's a test of loyalty to their one, unique version of what it means to support Israel. You could support, love, bless, help Israel 100%, live a life of nothing but loving Israel, and if that support does not extend, for example, to the Likud political Party and it's membership, then none of that counts. It's not about loving and supporting Israel, it's about loving and supporting a smallish plurality faction within Israel. It's a sham. It's a method that neocons are using to frame the debate and try to play on their own home field.

at least Jews supporting Israel is rational, as Irish Americans supporting Ireland. but these nut cases support Israel because they want the rapture. separation of Church and State? how about separation of Church and party

I'm wondering how many seconds it would take the World to condemn a White Christian State in unison as a racist state , upon announcement.
I also often wonder and have mentioned/questioned it here , why is there so very little coverage of Israel's West Bank occupation.

I had always leaned toward supporting Israel, but no longer sure just why, if they gave up their occupation that feeling might
somewhat return.

Most of all we need OIL , can't get around that, but I wish we would focus on self sufficiency, pack up 95% of our troops and
bring them back to secure the borders, the world will only hate us for our interventionist policies so long before they band together and
crush us.

There is a sect of Jews within Israel that are extremely anti-Zionist because that it is God who is supposed to return the Jews to Israel. That the modern state of Israel was founded by secular socialists and not the hand of God makes it an abomination in their minds. I always thought this might be a fertile line of argument to use on pro-Israel Christians.

I really don't care about the occupation. their business. my problem is their influence and arrogance in other countries affairs. from setting foreign policy to influencing elections to the endless foreign aid demanded.

to this extreme it is. even Bush 41 stood up to Israel. will even Rand stand up to them today?

It has bee a political reality since the 1920s when the Zionists became a political force (They were initially rejected even by the Jewish leaders)

It has been firmly in place since 1948 when Israel was formed. It is the reason the USS Liberty incident was covered up.

It has been firmly enforced by both parties,, regardless of any rhetoric.

I agree, though look at the first part of what you're saying , I can assure you there is no greater incidence of arrogance and influence than taking and occupying part of another Country, that's arrogance beyond definition.

Cindy25, do you care about this? If yes, do you have any idea what is causing this?
