Food Companies Lobby Congress to Reduce Ethanol Usage

But man made global warming is killing us!! We need to use our fields to grow things other than food!

I was at a Republican convention today. The congresswoman who spoke called for more "investment" in ethanol (subsidies, that is). She got a huge round of applause. I could only shake my head in disbelief.

Wow, I live in a state with a big ethanol industry (MN), and at our convention, everyone seemed to be on board to eliminate this subsidy.

Increased intervention and increased regulations in markets = a beaurocratic mess. If we had stayed out and let the markets take care of it noone (food companies, oil companies, farmers, whoever has interest in either side) would be having to waste money and lobby anybody. Now Congress will have to come up with more complicated legislation concerning ethanol production to try and passify the food companies.

Isn't hemp supposed to be better than corn for producing bio fuels?

When these idiots came up with the ethanol scheme I said the only thing this is going to do is drive up food prices. And that is all it has done. So what they replaced the MTBE in gasoline with ethanol and can make E85 for the few flex fuel vehicles out there. You can't accuse them of thinking about the consequences of their actions that's for sure.

Yes. And Ron Paul's mentioned that in speeches and Q&A sessions. And introduced legislation to legalize it. Now that he has a *ahem* ARMY OF SUPPORTERS, maybe we could give him a hand. ;)
