::::Folding@Home::: Any active Ron Paul teams?

i used to do all of that until one of the projects burned up my computer. can't remember which one as I was using BOINC which allows you to que many different projects. Cool idea though!

How did that happen?

I've been running distributed computing projects on my computers since I started with "distributed.net" back in ~1998 or so (it actually predated "SETI@Home).

I'm currently running 5 computers at home using BOINC (which I've been using for the past several years).

Never had a problem with them "burning up" any of the probably 20 or so computers I've installed it on over the years.

Anyway, BOINC is cool because it's a "one-stop shop" where you can choose from any number of projects all on one platform - helping with medical research, scientific research, mathematics, and even the original SETI.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/

You can run one project per processor (so an old computer can only run one project at a time, a quad core can run 4 at a time, etc).

It's a great way to ensure that your computer isn't just wasting electricity while it sits idle, as so many of us just leave them on 24/7 these days.

This computer is currently Malariacontrol and Milkyway@Home. I also run rosetta, Docking@Home, and World Community Grid (FightAids@Home, HelpConquer Cancer, etc) on my other machines.

Because the projects occasionally go down, I always run 2-3 projects per computer- that way, if one project is down, the computer will have a couple of others to choose from.

Cool. We`ve made it into top 6k with only 15 active users. Team Ranking (incl. aggregate) 5566 of 209565

Here
you find more elaborate but bit delayed team stats.

Moving up but we need more people to join. Download the beta client that uses both CPU and GPU(graphic card).

Team name is Ron Paul 2012 - team ID: 182919

You can also use your PS3. Here is how:

P.S: Don`t forget that you can use same user on multiple computers(PCs, Macs even PS3s). I`m running it on 2 computers now and will install it on 3 more under same user.

Currently offline myself (then how am I posting you ask? ;) borrowed laptop) but as soon as I get my hex-core rig back online I'll check on with this again hopefully I can help push the numbers.

Cheers :)

That is great. Our team on here is gowing fast.

I used to be on the Ufies (User Friendly) team for F@H, I had some 5 machined churning at the time. Not participating at the moment however.

Yep.

We`re 21 active users already and gaining momentum. Nice jump in numbers but we`re going to need few hundred more to make the big push.

How do I get a copy of Folding@home for the PS3?

If you have PS3 system version 1.6 or later, you will see a Folding@home icon in the Network column of the XMB (PS3 menu). Just click on the icon and that's it. If you don't have 1.6 or later, please perform a system upgrade. Note that Folding@home for the PS3 is now included in the "Life With Playstation" application.

P.S: Don`t forget that you can use same user on multiple computers(PCs, Macs even PS3s). I`m running it on 3 computers now.

Charity and Potential Ron Paul Publicity

What is Folding@home and how can it help Ron Paul?
By participating in the Folding@home program by Stanford you are contributing to charity and might generate Ron Paul some excellent media coverage. Folding@home is a charity program by which you help scientists solve our most difficult diseases by lending them your idle computer's processing power. The scientists send your computer work involving the way proteins are structured. Then, your computer automatically processes the work and sends back the results. When us Ron Paul supporters group together we can process a lot for charity and with enough support we can be in the top 10 or 100 of groups participating in the program, thus generating positive media coverage!

To Participate
If you have a fast computer with a good video card and are somewhat familiar with computers you should probably run this client that allows both your CPU and GPU to process (update your video card drivers first)! Otherwise, you want to simply go to the download page and select the right download, most likely the "Windows XP/Vista/7/2003/2008 System tray (Systray) client installer with optional viewer". Upon download and installation you will only have to fill out a minimum of two things and you should start to see your client processing!
Username: Make up a username not already in the system (check here to see if it is already used)
Group/Team ID for Ron Paul 2012: 182919

The process to participate with multiple computers is the same as the first, just simply input the exact same username and Team ID as you put in the first one! You can even use your PS3 to help by connecting it to the internet and running the "Life with PlayStation" application (if not available update your firmware).

How is our team (Ron Paul 2012) doing?
These are the official stats for our team.
These are more detailed, independently created statistics.

Using your computer
Your computer is made up of hardware (the physical stuff like metal and electronic components) and software (the non-physical stuff like 1's and 0's). If your computer already has a hardware problem running the program might help make the problem more evident or speed up the problem by adding some stress to your computer. For example, when my video card started processing it makes an extra high-pitched noise that might be a sign of a start of a problem. If your computer has software problems like running super slow, adding this program might incrementally add to those existing problems. Folding@home shouldn't create a problem on its own that didn't already exist.

Please Participate!
By joining you will have fun by contributing and seeing our team do great! You will be helping charity primarily and Ron Paul at the same time! Please post any of your questions about participating so we can get more people to join!

I do recommend not doing it on a laptop though. Laptop processors are meant to have dormant periods where they cool.

If you have any information on this I would be interested in reading it.

My information is personal experience. Laptops I've used 24/7 die from heat. Laptops I use occasionally last forever. I had a desktop and a laptop on BOINC and the laptop fried the desktop was just fine.

Ill say this, the beta client is running my GPU at 99% so the GPU fan is running at max speed.
Running the fan at max speed for hours on end will shorten the life of the fan.
If the fan fails, the video card will overheat and fail soon after.
I wish this beta client had a way to set it max GPU usage. I would like it running at 80% instead of 99%.
Even playing BF3 on ultra settings @ 720p res only uses 80% my video card..this programs is a friggin torture test in comparison.

I could see how this would burn up a laptop. They are not built to run ballz to the wall for hours on end.

I am using the beta client and my GPU fan speed is a 40% on an HD 5850. GPU loads averages around 95%. I have an HD 5770 that is not running the beta version and its fan speed is at 50%. GPU load on that one is around 90%. Both of the cards are overclocked. First one by 22% with the 2nd by 12%. So looks like mine are at a good fan speed for less wear.

Hey. Does anyone know if we have to run the program every time we turn on the computer? Or does it automatically work without us doing anything after installation?
