Focus On The Montana, Iowa & Virginia State Conventions This Weekend

Maybe someone else who knows for sure can confirm this, but this is my understanding. If it's correct, then we already have more than the 5 states needed to nominate Ron Paul at the convention. Anybody know for sure?

That is the assumption we are running on but it is not 100% confirmed.

Nobody knows for sure. Even absolute experts aren't sure about it, as this never happened before.

I read the rules that say there is binding on 'the first ballot vote' to mean that is the only time bound. It doesn't say they are bound otherwise.

But a candidate "has to show a clear majority (in 5 states)" if I remember it correctly. And if Romney people are to decide if this is the case...

Mmmm. There is precedent that they can vote otherwise on other matters than first ballot. Don't know if specifically nomination came up, but it clearly is not first ballot to nominate.

(b) Each candidate for nomination for
President of the United States and Vice President of the
United States shall demonstrate the support of a
plurality of the delegates from each of five (5) or more
states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of
that candidate for nomination.

From Rule #40 of the RNC Rules: http://www.gop.com/images/legal/2008_RULES_Adopted.pdf

The way it reads, we already have the 5 states needed. It just depends on how they define "the support."

Now I will probably get my fingers broken or my hip dislocated for saying this. (Glad there are no off duty cops around.)

I see it the same way, but: Always hope for best, and count for the worst. ;)

I don't see "support" as being "pledged", would seem that if a plurality of delegates said, "Yea, we support Ron Paul to be nominated for nominee" that should do it, yes?
edit: although I'm not sure how "plurality" would be interpreted in that case.

I'll elaborate once I'm at a computer, but...

The convention starts in < 20 mins. The state coordinator just arrived and informed us that we have no slate.

Up until now, there were rumors of a slate of 6 ppl, mostly Campaign for Liberty folk. This was disheartening, because there are over a dozen deligates up for grabs.

We only have Donna Holt, a national committeewoman, to vote for. Even John Tate (of C4L fame) is no longer running for delegate. What the heck???

But it turned out that a deal may have been made to avoid a convention fight. Granted, this is hearsay...but I'm hoping to find out the truth soon.

Regardless, we sure did drop the ball.
There are Willard signs everywhere.
Willard volunteers everywhere.

Not a single Ron Paul sign in sight. I've run into no more than 6 supporters myself.

This is awful.

I'm so sorry that Virginia has let you all down...

We MUST learn from this is disaster!

I bet 2 to 1, folks are incognito like what we did in Texas. Perhaps this person did not connect to his meetup group?

Edit: Ah, it looks like their delegate process may be a little different. I'm not Virginian, so I have no idea how they do theirs.

Thank you for the stream.

A clear vote for "nay" was chosen as a "yea" by the chair. Unfortunately the sound is bad and I could not hear what the vote was about.

There was also a close vote and Division was called. Now, from what I understand they are counting but to meet 2/3rds!

Warren county (heavy RP) may not be seated due to a technicality about a letter signed by the wrong person.

If you are from VA and understand this better than I do, please correct, explain, expand.

Thanks.

I believe in VA we need 25 for a majority. We have 17 from the CDs
