Focus On The Montana, Iowa & Virginia State Conventions This Weekend

Now it looks like Massie (our guy) in CD 3 didn't receive enough votes to win on the first ballot. They are now doing a runoff between Massie and someone else for the final national delegate spot in CD 3.

That article I posted above just updated and CD1 has all 3 for Paul

After a second ballot, Massie won.

That means we have swept CD 1, 3 and CD 4 so far for 9 delegates.

Are all 3 superdelegates for Paul? If so, a sweep of CD2 would be a majority.

The Iowa GOP Chairman supports Paul.

The National Committeewoman backed Santorum but hasn't said who she supports now.

The National Committeeman hasn't said who he supports.

Hmm...

Massie says that he will give his delegate badge to a Romney alternate so they can cast vote for Romney at convention. Classy move.

Reports coming out of the Montana State Convention tonight is that a Romney backed Slate, the only one on the printed ballot, won, despite nominations from the floor for Ron Paul Delegates. Evidently close to 45% of the delegates were Ron Paul supporters.

So it appears that Ron received or will receive when the votes are announced tomorrow, 0 delegates from Montana, which really hurts our chances to reach the magic 5 States that will have a plurality of Ron Paul Delegates to nominate him on the Convention floor for President. UGH!!!

11 of the 12 delegates went to Ron Paul tonight in Ia almost a sweep! Now on to the alternatives! #ronpaul #iagop

Bleeding Heartland @desmoinesdem
Sounds like Ron Paul supporters got rules changed in #IA02 to elect delegates by plurality, not majority as called for under #IAGOP rules.

We won 2/3 delegates in CD 2.

Results:

We won 11/12 National Delegates. They are still voting on Alternate Delegates.

13 more National Delegates will be elected tomorrow.

Don't you think that the record should show, if we win Iowa, that we won Iowa? I would want these to be Ron Paul votes.

What if there are no romney alternates ?

Jen @crazywookie
#ronpaul took all alternative delegates in iowa district 3!!! #iagop

Iowa is unbound, he should be voting for Ron Paul. I would think that putting Ron Paul into nomination is a goal. Now, if we don't get the 5, and we're prevented from voting for Ron Paul, and the Iowa delegates have to vote for Romney, then let the Romney delegate vote for Romney.

Fantastic news! Let's hope for even more good news tomorrow :D

I think I read a post somewhere by Torchbearer that said we do not need a plurality of "Ron Paul delegates" in 5 states in strict terms of "bound" delegates.

We just need a majority of delegates from any 5 states to nominate Ron Paul.

So in other words, if we have a plurality of Ron Paul supporters in delegate spots in "bound" states like Nevada, even though most of those are "officially" Romney delegates, that does not matter for purposes of nominating. Motions to nominate are separate from the issue of the first ballot voting.* I don't know this for sure, I'm just repeating what I thought I read from Torchbearer a couple weeks ago.

Maybe someone else who knows for sure can confirm this, but this is my understanding. If it's correct, then we already have more than the 5 states needed to nominate Ron Paul at the convention. Anybody know for sure?

*If things go well with the lawsuit those delegates are not going to be bound either. Different topic though, entirely.

Nobody knows for sure. Even absolute experts aren't sure about it, as this never happened before.
