C4L and YAL need to immediately send emails to all Florida members urging them to apply to participate as delegates in Florida's "Presidency 5" Straw Poll described in this article:

http://www.sunshinestatenews.com/story/florida-gop-begins-gear-p5-presidential-poll

From the article, it sounds like a Ron Paul victory in this straw poll would be almost as powerful as an Ames straw poll victory at establishing Ron Paul as top tier candidate.

A thread on this straw poll needs to be stickied immediately and needs to be bumped until C4L and YAL take the lead on this. The deadline for registering is June 10, 2011. The Republican Party of Florida needs to be flooded with applications from Ron Paul supporters!

If I am eligible for this (and there would be some question), I wouldn't mind going. If you read the rules things are a little difficult, though. I just changed my voter registration to Florida after it had been WV. That's well after the stated deadline. I can't seem to find where it says one must have been a registered member of the FL GOP, though; it just says of the GOP. This would mean I qualify. If it's the FL GOP, then I don't qualify.

Some things to consider/plan for:

Registration alone is $125.00. I doubt there will be a discounted version of this. It's payable during the selection process, it seems, which is in early summer.
There will be hotel expenses to consider. This thing runs from Thursday through the weekend, if I read things right. If you want to stay the whole time you need to plan on shelling out good money. The vote appears to be Saturday, so a lot of us could swoop in on Friday night, vote Saturday, then go home. I am not sure when the presentations will be.

We'll see how this all plays out. If I am going, then I expect to spend around $500 between one thing and another. I won't be doing a ChipIn unless it's for others who're pooling their way down with me. If not me, then I hope others in the North Florida area will join up and arrange for getting down there.

Good news: You only need to be registered Republican in the state of Florida as of Feb. 1st, 2011. That's all! (because some of the delegates are chosen by party leaders, your chances are increased by being a member of the FL GOP, but you can still win one of the lottery seats)

Bad news: If you are selected, you must be present at your local precinct's caucus (of sorts). These take place some time after the June 10th deadline- my caucus is June 24th. If you are selected as delegate, the registration fee is $175 except for backup delegates, they pay $125.

Also, the FOX News debate is Thursday, and you need to be present for that too, or one of the backup delegates take your place. (they also pay the add'l $50 to take your place.)

Check out my thread posted above.

I wasn't registered Republican in the state of Florida as of 2/1/11, and cannot find that restriction. It just said that you needed to be registered Republican. I have been registered Republican for years, just not in FL. We'll see how that plays out.

I also saw nothing about having to be there on Thursday. I saw that the vote is Saturday.

I wonder if it is typical for presidential candidates to buy registrations for their supporters.

Yeah, this looks like a setup. We're going to allow voting, but only certain people get to vote. Yeah, right.

I'm in Florida, orlando and just don't have the money to go. If anyone would want to help me it would be awesome! I'd be willing to meet you before at some point so you know I'm not a creep or Something. I can even pay for part of the cost. Pm me if you could help an orlanian out. Please.

Have you signed up on ronpaulrides.com yet? You might be able to get a ride through that site.

Also, I'd encourage you to register for sure, since you don't have to pay unless you get selected. At that point you could probably do a chip-in for the registration fee. And I think rp08orbust posted something about renting some vans and picking people up.

The governor of the State of Florida is promoting this straw poll on its website. I definitely think it could be a big, big help to Dr. Ps campaign. We need some momentum.

Register. I agree that a chip in would be the way to go, later, and once you actually win a spot, people would be more likely to chip in than 'in case' you win a spot.

Wait, so only If I win the spot I have to pay? can I vote in the straw poll either way?
