Florida Man Asks Police to Shut Down Kid's "Illegal" Lemonade Stand

"I am very worried about the value of my home, which is why I built in a residential area, not a business area."

I'm sure being occupied by an asshole does wonders for a home values as well. Maybe his neighbors should be complaining about this Wilkey guy.

I'm going to guess you're around 22 or 23 and never owned a home. pretty close?

how about the kid set up in an empty lot? maybe the nearby retail strip center?

say you're in Colorado, and the kid wants to sell some joints. No problem?

How about just regular cigarettes for that matter? Buy 'em cheap in Oklahoma, go to New York city where they are $12 bucks a pack and set up shop in front of Aunt Gertrude's house?

You're letting the cuteness factor sway your common sense.
Unless he is on someone's property who does not want him there (say, the shopping mall), hell yes he should be able to do all that.

Why? He has permission from the Home Owner where he set up.

And why does it matter what he sells? I have bought pot from kids in the past.

Had a couple 10 year olds share some with me once. They had better than what I had,, and I appreciated it. (they weren't selling,, just smoking)

If you read the article, you would know that they took a poll of the neighborhood and found EVERYBODY ELSE was ok with it - except for this old crank.

Seems you have at least one of those in every neighborhood.

@why I hate cities

Good point. Definately got to consider the crank factor.

and yeah.... I missed the part about polling the neighbors. If the neighbors don't care then sure, why not.

you're opening the door of pandora's box though. give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile. Capitalism run wild!! probably need to require the kid to have a city permit of some sort, submit a sample of lemonade to the FDA at least once a month, and pay taxes on his profits. And subsidize the kid on the next block to maintain some price stability.

;)

Or you could take it the opposite direction and say that the state has the right to ban selling items on craigslist or having a garage sale because it is occurring in a residential area and not a business district.

Burn the little brat's lemonade stand to the ground, but don't treat with government agents.
Send a tank full of Swat Cops to enforce the city code. If the kid resists interogation, taz him.

Reasonable Response.

Really? What a dumb thing to say. Of course there are no douchebags in other generations...

Face it, the Boomers chasing self-gratification is what brought America down. I can tell a distinct difference in attitude in Boomers vs. everyone else.

And there's a reason for it - the Boomer experience is different from everyone else's. Boomers rode a generation-long debt bubble, stealing outright from their own posterity, the losses of which are manifest in government debt.

They did NOT have the experience of a mid- or early-career economic depression. They did not have to buy their homes at ridiculous, bubble-inflated prices. They did not have to pay much, if anything at all, for college. They were given all the benefits of the most prosperous nation ever to exist, and chose to hoard it for themselves and share nothing with future generations. I could go on all day on the differences in the Boomer experience, but suffice it to say that the generation as a whole can safely be labeled as spoiled rotten brats to a degree that no other generation, not even the Millenials, can come close.

Naturally, everyone is an individual and this doesn't apply to every individual.

And you really think you, of all people (who initially defended the fascism) has a right to say this?

Its too close to home for a statist shill. Why are people like you even here?

to temper the idealistic noise of the twenty-somethings with the reasonable-ness that comes with age.
Yeah, because its totally "reasonable" to use government violence against people (kids or not) who run lemonade stands on a sidewalk.

Its people like you who are responsible for the mess we are in. And you are far worse than the average person because you post on this site. You have literally no excuse. I am not even 20. And I'm "idealistic" enough not to associate with people like you, people who KNOW BETTER and continue to endorse tyranny.

I propose local governments publish a nanny offender registry right next to the sex offender registry. Those grumpmy old nannys would likely lower prroperty values more than 13 year old boys selling lemondade.

If you don't support the right of someone elses municipality somewhere else in the country to have zoning laws than perhaps you are the "statist"? How is it any of your business what laws a local government wants to enact? Do you want to go to this town guns a blazing to liberate all the people from their terrible zoning laws? I'm sure they will be waiting for you with flowers and candy in the streets.

Kid needs to think bigger and “campaign finance”, bait, bribe and lobby his way into the local government. Once he has them compromised and in his pants pocket or “on his side”, he can have the old complaining geezer’s property condemned by the local government and acquired using eminent domain laws. The local government will direct the local goon squad to make sure there are no more complaints from THAT neighbor. The local government will also direct the local newspaper to write up a nice puff piece about the kid and his business dream struggle.

After that house comes down, the local park district can put up a swing set, a pair of public washrooms, …and a small air-conditioned shop that sells LEMONAID, tripod (self standing) cane tips, refurbished mobility scooter batteries and all the other stuff the kid already was selling only a few feet away from this new location. This will be a much nicer store front to work out of!

Of course the kid won’t be able to work that sales counter in “his” new tax payer funded shop for long, ‘cause he will soon be too busy building more of them in a pre-planned franchise operation covering the next town, next county and eventually the entire state.

He will only run into strong pushback when he finds out the feds get involved as soon as the operation tries to edge into the neighboring states.

If he has the right stuff, who know about him becoming POTUS in 25 years or so.

I'm about to come over there and wash your mouth out with soap.
