Float trip!

If I go floating on one of the rivers we have here I end up in the sea... Not a good idea.

When I was in Florida we would do trips from the Alabama / Flordia line accross the panhandle on Blackwater River; then get off on the barrier island and drive home; Blackwater River State Forest is awesome.

We also did the Chipola River down to the Florida Caverns State Park; It was flooded a mile wide and every 100' or so down the river there would a 50' wide golden orb weaver web with HUGE web weaver in the middle. We saw a few birds in caught in the webs.

Every tree in the flooded river had an equally large wolf spider at the base.

Williamsport PA (Home of Little League World Series) does an annual event in July called, "Fanny in the Susquehanna." Benefits Andrews Special Kids Foundation. This has morphed into a huge event with over 3,000 participants last year. It's a really cool festival type atmosphere with entertainment, vendors, local DJ's etc. This is the "launching pad."

Tulsa used to have a thing called the Great Raft Race every Labor Day. Water would be let out of Keystone Dam, and that would make the Arkansas (which is always half a mile wide) more than two inches deep. Any non-motorized watercraft were welcome. There actually was a race, and local companies of the era like Rockwell would often engineer employee-built, pedal-powered catamarans and such. Anyone in a hurry to get to the finish line was launched ahead of the crowd, and timed.

Too many water cannons and too many people hoist by their own drunken petard-edness did that good thing in. But I wish it would be revived.
