Flash Mob Looting and Robbery in Wake of Rittenhouse Verdict

Didn't SF already legalize shoplifting?? I guess it's the "smash" part of smash and grab that made this news?

Pretty much. To the extent they are not prosecuting shoplifting, they have effectively legalized it.

And burglaries and home invasions may be next.

(I'd have thought you were crazy - or least excessively hyperbolic - if you had said such a thing even just a few years ago. But now ...)

... "should they tolerate burglaries as a part of city living, and focus on barricading homes" ...

And WTF is this asshole - erm, excuse me, I mean "expert" - talking about?

"Looting" is a term used for what looters do, regardless of what color they happen to be - white, black, or green-with-purple-polka-dots. I have never encountered an instance of the term "looting" being withheld from application to "other people" because of their color when they engage in "do[ing] the exact same thing". (And notice how this "expert" tries to cover his ass with the phrase "people of color or urban dwellers" [emphasis added] - as if there is any "looting" going on in cow pastures out in the sticks. I mean, where the hell else is looting going to happen, if not in an "urban" setting?)

But bigots like this "expert", who analyze everything through the lens of race, try to project their own bigotries onto everyone else while pretending that this somehow makes them virtuous. They will imply that you are a racist (or they'll outright call you one) if you use a term like "looting" - but then they'll turn right around and give a pass to people like the author of this book:

Devil's advocate here... What do we call it when politically-connected individuals smash the windows of the economy and grab the wealth of the populace with the full authorization of the law? Bastiat called the practice, "legal plunder". And yet, somehow these people escape the "looter" tag - even though, they make off with way more loot.

You could easily apply the term "looter" to them, as well. One could quibble that literal "looting" involves the direct, "in person" physical seizure of goods from a storefront or warehouse or whatnot - but even then, the term could still be figuratively applied to what you are describing. But the color of the looters would still be irrelevant to the proper application of the term. Under the figurative case, for example, Dubya and his cronies were no less "looters" than Obama and his crew were.

One of my best friends in SF was burglarized and robbed last week while sleeping.

Two days later she saw three men peering into her backyard. She called SFPD sobbing. They did not come.

"I've never lived someplace where the government just doesn't care about you" she said.

She and her husband are going to turn their home into a security fortress - motion detectors, lights, cameras.

"I was told that next time I have to say they have a weapon" she said.

"Be careful," I warned. That could get you in trouble.

I explained to her that we have laws which could give someone the right to sue her for calling the cops if they aren't committing a crime.

So what should she do if she sees people peering into her yard with cameras?

I have no idea.

She asked, "Does the government want me to be here? If I pay taxes, shouldn't they protect me?"

I responded "I don't think our government cares if you are protected. I don't think they want you to be here. I think they see you as a gentrifier."

She was hesitant to tell me because she was worried it would upset me. She was right. I'm upset.

I'm upset because I want my hometown to feel safe. I want my government to care about our residents.

$%#@$ - I want to feel safe too.

It doesn't matter if "it's just stuff."

It's scary as hell to have someone enter your home.

The fact that we as a city have accepted burglaries and property crime as "the cost of living here" ignores the emotional toll.

This isn't right.

For the record -- I have zero interest in owning or using a gun.

I believe in outsourcing that responsibility to highly trained professionals.

It's very problematic when people think they need guns to live safely in an urban environment.

This year I cannot tell you how many people admitted to me that they bought a gun.

This is not the right direction.

They aren't looters. They aren't smash and grabbers. I've created a new PC term for them. They are now known as reparationists.

Yes, I have used that term also comrade. They are heroes to the revolution.

"Looting" is a racist term:

We saw similar crimes happen in the wake of the George Floyd protests, but are the past weekend's crimes truly considered looting?

Race and Social Justice Reporter Julian Glover is here to give us some context of looting.

"As the Bay Area grapples with a wave of seemingly organized smash and grab robberies this weekend, policing and journalism analysts are cautioning against the use of the term looting," Julian says.
...
But according to the California Penal Code, what we saw was not looting.

The penal code defines looting as "theft or burglary...during a 'state of emergency', 'local emergency', or 'evacuation order' resulting from an earthquake, fire, flood, riot or other natural or manmade disaster."

To some, the distinction may be small, but Lorenzo Boyd, PhD, Professor of Criminal Justice & Community Policing at the University of New Haven, and a retired veteran police officer, emphasized that words matter.

"Looting is a term that we typically use when people of color or urban dwellers are doing something. We tend not to use that term for other people when they do the exact same thing," said Boyd.

A group of thieves hit a Home Depot in California and stole tools including crowbars and sledgehammers in the latest smash-and-grab robbery, authorities say

Authorities in California are looking for a group of suspects who ransacked a Home Depot on Friday night, in one of the latest smash-and-grab robberies in the state.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, just after 7:30 p.m., the group went into the Lakewood establishment and stole an estimated $400 worth of tools including sledgehammers and crowbars.

The suspects then fled the scene in a red Mercedes Benz "with severe damage to the front of the vehicle," police said.

As KTLA reported, an employee said that he saw at least 18 suspects in the store.

"They had the sledgehammers ready to hit people who were trying to stop them," Luis Romo told the outlet.

A wave of smash-and-grabs has been on the rise with multiple reports coming out of California throughout the holiday season. Last weekend, various luxury stores, cannabis dispensaries, and pharmacies were hit by a group of robbers in the Bay Area.

The crime sprees have been also been occurring in other states. In Chicago, a group of 14 suspects stole about $120,000 of merchandise from a Louis Vuitton store last week. Surveillance video shows the robbers running into the store and clearing it out within minutes. Other retailers in the city's Wicker Park neighborhood were targeted on Black Friday. North Face, Footlocker, and Boost Mobile were all hit within an hour.

News Crew’s Bodyguard Killed by Armed Robbers While Covering Bay Area Robbery

A security guard working for a California news station died on Saturday, days after he was shot by armed robbers while protecting a news crew reporting on a recent armed robbery.

Looters Ransack Numerous Retailers Across Country Throughout Thanksgiving Week

https://www.breitbart.com/crime/202...-across-country-throughout-thanksgiving-week/

NICK GILBERTSON 28 Nov 2021

Groups of looters ransacked shopping centers and retailers around the country throughout Thanksgiving week following last weekend’s full-fledged stealing bonanza in California’s Bay Area.

A Sunglass Hut at the Del Monte shopping center in Monterey, California, was hit by a group of four on Friday, who stole an estimated $30,000 in sunglasses, police confirmed to KSBW.

Store Manager Shauna Weirich said the bandits were in and out within two minutes.

“They just knew what to do,” she said per KSBW. “No rhyme or reason for it they just knew what to do, when to do it and how to get the most out of what they were doing.”

The same day, a group of eight between the ages of 15 and 20, stole crowbars, hammers, and other tools from a Lakewood, California, Home Depot, according to Fox 11, citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. They made off with an estimated $400 in tools.

“We tried to stop them,” Home Depot employee Luis Romo told FOX 11. “We closed the front entrance and they put their sledgehammers up and whoever got in the way, they were going to hurt them.”

Fox 11 reports:

The suspects all fled the store in getaway vehicles parked outside. According to the sheriff’s department, one of the getaway vehicles was a red Mercedes Benz with severe damage to the front. The department says possibly 10 vehicles were involved.

Around 9 p.m. Friday, officers with the Beverly Hills Police Department spotted several vehicles with no license plates near Beverly Dr. and Dayton Way. Thy [sic] conducted a traffic stop on one of the vehicles; the four occupants were taken into custody.

They were booked at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station and items among the alleged stolen property were recovered, Lakewood city officials said Saturday.

Crimes were not isolated to the Golden State. Two mobs of looters ransacked multiple Best Buys in metro Minnesota on Friday night, according to the Star Tribune.

Both of the ransackings took place shortly after 8:00 p.m. Police say a mob of 20 to 30 people rampaged through the Burnsville Best Buy, while a group of ten to 12 that included both juveniles and adults hit the Maplewood store, according to the Star Tribune.

No injuries were reported, and no one was arrested as of Saturday.

More looting was documented in the midwest on Black Friday. Three men reportedly waltzed into a Chicago Foot Locker, filled trash bags with merchandise, and fled the area, according to NBC Chicago, citing a WBBM-TV report.

Though Black Friday brought numerous group thefts throughout the country, looting had been prevalent throughout the days leading up to Black Friday.

On Wednesday, a group of thieves reportedly stole designer handbags from a Nordstrom in the Westfield Topanga mall in Canoga Park in Los Angeles, according to Fox 11. The looters made off with an estimated $25,000 in merchandise.

Breitbart News 642 on an incident that left a security guard dead while he was protecting a KRON news crew:

The victim’s name is Kevin Nishita, and he left behind his wife, two children, and three grandchildren. Nishita was an armed security guard for Star Protection Agency and was a former policeman.

https://twitter.com/ACSOSheriffs/st...-across-country-throughout-thanksgiving-week/

The outlet said, “The KRON4 crew was covering a story on Wednesday about a recent robbery where 12 thieves wearing masks and hoods raided a clothing store on the 300 block of 14th Street,” adding that at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, an assailant attempted to steal KRON4’s camera equipment, according to police.”

Nishita was shot in his lower abdomen and later succumbed to his injuries.

The mayhem of Thanksgiving week follows a three-night-long free-for-all in California’s Bay Area last weekend, previously reported by Breitbart News.

Looters hit high-end stores like Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent in San Francisco’s Union Square on November 19. The next night a group of 50-80 rushed a Walnut Creek Nordstrom near San Francisco.

Police estimate between $100,000 to $200,000 was lifted from the department store, according to Fox News.

On November 21, a Lululemon in San Jose was ransacked. At least 40,000 in merch was stolen from the store, according to Fox News.

So, I've seen, over the past few years, people bring up the film, The Purge (never saw it), predicting we'd get there. Looks like we're there.

a group of eight between the ages of 15 and 20, stole crowbars, hammers

How does anyone know their ages if nobody was arrested?
