FL-19: Clawson 30%, Benacquisto 26%, Kreegel 21%

Three days before Republican voters in Florida’s 19th Congressional District head to the polls for a special election to replace the disgraced Trey Radel, a new poll shows a tight, three-way primary still up for grabs.


According to a new survey from St. Pete Polls, Curt Clawson commands 30 percent of likely voters’ support, while state Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto is at 26 percent and former state Rep. Paige Kreegel is at 21 percent. A fourth candidate, Michael Dreikhorn, is getting 11 percent of the vote, while 12 percent of voters say they are undecided.

Curt Clawson, a candidate for Congress in FL-19, has come under fire for renting his home to a convicted pedophile who was convicted in 2004 of raping and sodomizing a pre-teen girl.
Clawson, who has been criticized for donating to Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and benefiting from federal bailouts, is in a competitive battle with Lizbeth Benacquisto, the Florida Senate majority leader who has been endorsed by Sarah Palin.

It's not the renting of his home to a pedophile that concerns me...if true, it's the donation to Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and benefiting from federal bailouts that has me concerned.

Palin seemed to be referring to a recent report in the Naples Daily News about candidate Curt Clawson, who has tried to frame himself as a conservative despite having a record that suggests otherwise. He made a campaign contribution to liberal Michigan Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) in 2009 after she wrote a provision into Obamacare that would allow the federal government to pick up health benefits of former employees of a company that Clawson owned. Furthermore, his company hired lobbyists and paid them nearly a million dollars while Obamacare was being fleshed out for “issues pertaining to manufacturing and filing for bankruptcy."

I have donated to plenty of liberty candidates....but if a liberty candidate is wasting their own money sending it to Debbie Stabenow or any other corrupt politician then, I am not sending any money to him/her nor supporting him/her.

This is what Clawson said upon receiving Rand's endorsement:

"Having the leading voice for freedom, liberty and the United States Constitution in the United States Congress come on board our campaign cannot be overstated. I am truly grateful for the support of Senator Paul and if elected will join him in the fight to restore fiscal order in Washington. Simply put, this is the biggest day yet of this campaign."

That rhetoric indicates he will be a supporter of the Liberty Caucus if elected.

Rand has endorsed in 2 House special elections this season, both of which were victories. Hopefully Clawson becomes the third on Tuesday.
