This is why we have to take over our individual locales.

Mayor to Marines: Leave downtown

A company of Marine Corps Reservists received a cold send-off from downtown Toledo yesterday by order of Mayor Carty Finkbeiner.

The 200 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., planned to spend their weekend engaged in urban patrol exercises on the streets of downtown as well as inside the mostly vacant Madison Building, 607 Madison Ave.

"He did not want them practicing and drilling in a highly visible area."

Looks to me like he's on the secretive side of things. Can't have the public around hearing the soldiers talk about martial law now.

Yeah, but he told them to be "GONE by sundown," but not in those words. LOL! There's no way that the Marine Corps could have worked through the bureaucracy and found a new location in time. I took it as an excuse to run them off. But, I hadn't thought about it in your terms.

I am from Grand Rapids, and it shocks me 100%. Perhaps I should write some letters, see if I can at least get the "screw off" responses they give out.
