My brother [redacted], friend [redacted], and I are starting up a YAL chapter on the campus of our school, [redacted]. We're anxious to get our feet wet in terms of true political involvement, so I proposed we try to attend CPAC. Being college students, money is really tight for us right now, so we can only go if we get help from others. We would drive, but the 1800 miles from Kansas City to DC is not feasible, so flying is the only real option.

We're planning on leaving the 10th, voting early on the 11th and returning on the evening of the 12th so as to avoid missing too many classes. The plan is to stay with a friend of my mother's outside of DC, but that has not yet been confirmed; I am, for the time being, assuming we'll have to pay for hotel costs. It's now been confirmed that we have a place to stay, so hotel costs are no longer necessary. The ChipIn has been updated to reflect this change.

Flights are approximately $250 per person for a total of $750 for the three of us. I'll be covering the cost of tickets for all 3 of us.

My brother is not yet confirmed, but he's doing the best he can to get released from work over CPAC. If he doesn't go I'll return any money that exceeds the amount required for flights. If none of us goes, I will return all money donated.

Another group leaving from the KC metro - nice! This would be good to get filled ASAP since plane ticket costs are likely to go up shortly. What airport are you looking to fly into in DC? The closest is DCA - Reagan Nat'l.

Also, make sure you either register for the poll before 5 pm on the 10th or by 10 am on the 11th and cast your vote or you won't be able to and that would be a huge waste.

DCA is likely where we'll fly. We will definitely register early enough. I've read a ton on the details and I'm going to make sure we get there in time.

Check out StudentUniverse.com for cheap flights, sometimes they are much cheaper than Priceline, Orbitz, etc.

Thanks for the tip. I've been using Kayak.com, and the prices on StudentUniverse.com are pretty similar.

Southwest is looking like the best option right now. They fly into BWI, not DCA, but if it means saving $15-20 a ticket, I think it's worth the inconvenience of taking the bus into DC.

Good news

I just heard from my mom that her friend is willing to house us, so the $150 for hotel costs is no longer necessary. Total required is now $750.

I have also heard from the Kansas YAL coordinator, William Stewart, that he's looking into getting us travel vouchers for the trip. I'll update here if I hear any goods news in that regard.

Just donated. No thanks are necessary as I feel that I'm still not doing enough to promote the cause of liberty. I wish I could be there and I'm betting that this will be a Ron Paul blowout. We must not let up, however as I know the Romney camp is busing in many supporters. I was at SLRC (where we lost by one stinking vote) and the Romney camp was there in full force with tables and huge printed placards in the lobby.
