For First Time, More Non-Mexicans Apprehended at U.S.-Mexico Border

More non-Mexicans than Mexicans were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in 2014 - a historic first according to more than 60 years of Border Patrol data analyzed by the Pew Research Center.

According to the report, 229,000 Mexicans were apprehended at the border in 2014, compared to 259,000 non-Mexicans. While border apprehensions were up 16 percent over 2013- primarily due to the surge of Central American children crossing earlier this year - the numbers are far lower than the 809,000 Mexican apprehensions in 2007 and 1.6 million in 2000.

The figures are yet another indicator of the decline in migration from Mexico following the Great Recession
. At the same time, undocumented immigrants from Mexico currently in the U.S. have been in the country for a median of 13 years, reflecting the large migration patterns of the past decades.

big deal, americans aren't willing to lock down their government actions so what does this matter?

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."-George Orwell

I'm anti-criminal aliens from wherever, not anti-Mexican.

I can understand how somebody crossing onto your property might be problem, not sure how it is a problem for people to cross an imaginary line thousands of miles away from your own home?

Just conforming to the current world paradigm reality of countries (geography) and borders and playing the game until the libertarian/anarchy nirvana is at least on the distant horizon. ;) :D

It's not bad because Mexicans are moving here so they can work, it is bad because of the socialism.

And what percentage of people are coming for our Free Welfare, not our Jobs? A stat like that could be quite revealing...

It's all water under the bridge, they came about three decades ago in the first wave and then two decades ago was the beginning of the second wave... that second wave pretty much ended about a decade ago before the economy crashed.

There are almost as many or more leaving back to Mexico than are coming here now..

That is true, but also not the whole story. The other part of the Thread Title doesnt account for those crossing the border from other countries, just Mexicans from Mexico. We still get people from Peru, Guatemala, Panama, and all other South American and Central American countries. Also the first line of Zippy's quote. You are right tho that they come in waves, and many, once here, or that have been here for a long time, have found that what we have turned into is not compatible with either liberty or self sustainability. Hope the fence, no jobs, leave. Grass isnt always greener...

I bet if the Mexicans decided they did not want us in Mexico they could do a better job keeping us out than we do/did keeping them out.

I am curious as to the percentage of Hispanic immigrants vs. 'native' Californians.

I would be curious as to the percentage of voting Hispanic immigrants vs. 'native' Californians.

I think mostly I am curious as to the percentage of immigrants vs. 'native' inhabitants of Detroit with regards to voting and enabling it to become the crime ridden shit hole that it is.

I would have to find the figures but illegal immigrants have a higher workforce participation rate than citizens do. Something like 75% vs 65%.

The number of people on welfare has been rising yet the number of illegal immigrants has been going down (from 12.3 million in 2007 to 10.3 million today). Maybe it isn't the welfare.

Just to clear the air of bullshit=> most statistics are all crap. ALL but a few illegals get on (state) welfare, especially true if they bring children or have children while in the US. And Their family/friends help set them up with a place to live, and necessary welfare paperwork. They give fake names, use multiple Mexican consulate ID's, and go to different state welfare offices to sign up for food stamps, etc.. Many of them run food vending business, and some of them run real restuarants. And damn near all of the ones that vote....vote for more handouts (just listen to the spanish radio stations). The ghost of Karl Marx runs strong with these folks from south of the border. Open borders + democracy = death to freedom. And no, we don't live in a republic (any more).

.
Fact: Open border libertarians are suicidal. Unless you are from the north east, then you are just freedom murderers by proxy....;)

"I own me, you own you."

Seems odd that you recognize the authority of the state in immigration matters.

Meh.
Non-sequitur!

It's actually much more a logical, rational recognition of power and threatened violence potential than it is of any legitimate authority on all state-claimed matters.

(You really do need to work on your lame spin-meister trainee skills.)
