You hit the nail on the head. Public acceptance of this behavior is the biggest problem of all...people give the cops the benefit of the doubt way too much and assume way too often that their actions must be legitimate because they're "legitimate authority figures." People forget that cops exist to serve and protect, not command and assault. Plus, it seems like a lot of people will find any excuse to justify a cop's actions, no matter how disproportionately violent.
