FEC Flags Thousands Of Illegal Contributions to Sanders

This doesn't surprise me one bit, I knew there was no way that Sanders was bringing in that kind of money just off of dumb-shit college students and unemployed ne'er do wells.

He should start with his own campaign.

In the year 2016, with a political campaign finance system that is corrupt and increasingly controlled by billionaires and special interests, I fear very much that, in fact, government of the people, by the people, and for the people is beginning to perish in the United States of America.

We cannot allow that to happen.

...

AS PRESIDENT, I WILL:

Only appoint Supreme Court justices who will make it a priority to overturn Citizens United and who understand that corruption in politics means more than just quid pro quo.

Fight to pass a constitutional amendment making it clear that Congress and the states have the power to regulate money in elections. I have been a proud sponsor and leading champion of such an amendment in the Senate.

Fight for a publicly financed, transparent system of campaign financing that amplifies small donations, along the lines of the Fair Elections Now Act that I have been pleased to co-sponsor, and an effective public financing system for president.

Insist on complete transparency regarding the funding of campaigns, including through disclosure of contributions to outside spending groups, via legislation, action by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Election Commission, and Federal Communication Commission, and an executive order requiring government contractors to disclose their political spending.

Fight to eliminate super PACs and other outside spending abuses.

Work to aggressively enforce campaign finance rules.

meh

its only about 300 names and we're talking sums generally less than a $1000 over the limit, they are irregularities but this is hardly scandalous or indicative of wrong doing.

he raised funds from 2.5 million people... this is well within the realm of statistical anomalies

It's really not. Most other campaigns don't get these letters because they refund these contributions. This is sloppy.

The 2016 Democratic hopeful has accumulated more individual donations than any candidate in history.

This is sloppy.

sure... but he does have considerably more donors per dollar to iron out than the common candidate.

many of them are just things like $2800 or $3000 donation when the max is $2700

He can probably resolve the whole thing for less than $200k of refunds

This isn't a list full of $50k checks from foreigners... its chump change accounting; hardly indicative of "influence peddling"

I didn't say it was influence peddling. It's sloppy accounting from a guy who wants to run the global economy.

I do campaign finance reporting. Liberty candidates get a lot of this too - small donations from lots of people. It is not unusual to get contributions from people ineligible to contribute. It is highly unusual to get this letter from the FEC, because software flags it and it immediately gets returned or reallocated.

"Only" 300 names - that's actually quite a lot.
