FDA Wants to Monitor Social Media Chatter About Product Risks

By Joseph Marks
February 28, 2014

The Food and Drug Administration is looking for a contractor to monitor social media chatter about the drugs and other products it regulates and how that chatter shifts as a result of FDA risk warnings, solicitation documents show.

The agency is looking for a contractor that can provide historical information about the sorts of conversations consumers are having on blogs, message boards and social media sites about the product classes FDA regulates -- such as drugs, medical devices, food and tobacco -- and then track when the sentiment or volume of those conversations shifts, according to the sources sought notice posted on Tuesday.

FDA wants to track what makes those conversations spike, rise slowly or trend downward, the notice said, and to gather information about “about social media buzz volume over time, top sources of buzz, most popular forums of online discussion, most-cited news stories, major themes of discussion, sentiment analysis, word clouds and/or message maps, and a sample of verbatim consumer comments.”

Why don't they hire the NSA? I'm pretty sure that Snowden just released their "This is how we do it" primer on internet social media, didn't he?

They don't have to even monitor me for an opinion. The FDA SUCKS !!!! All bread in the grocery store has that same chemical that is used for yoga mats ... Every country in the world has outlawed that chemical, except for the United States. The chemical is known to cause cancer, and was introduced into our food supply under Richard Nixon. The United States ranks No. 1 in the highest rates of cancer.

Don't Monitor Me FDA !!!!! I'll tell you straight up, your organization sucks and your leadership should be executed; as China did to the sleezebags who were trying to poison the Chinese people.

That's because yeast produce it in the fermentation process.

No they have not.

No, it wasn't.

No, it doesn't.

Yeah, I'm prety sure you're the type that they're trying to screen out. But not for the reasons you think...

Dude you can eat all the shit you want .. Azodiacarbonamide .. Just keep it out of my food. Hell, commit suicide if you wish, take your family down with it; but why the hell when I order a subway sandwich, I'm eating cancer causing agents akin to yoga mats?

If I want a piece of bread, I do not want to eat Azodiacarbonamide . I'm looking for flour, egg, yeast and milk ... I didn't sign on to eat Azodiacarbonamide.

We have had a couple of threads on this. Azodiacarbonamide isn't in breads. It breaks down as part of the baking process.

So if it isn't an issue, we shouldn't mind it being removed from foods altogether, just as it has been banned around the world. Consumers should have a choice not to have it in their bread AT ALL, at any point in its preparation or distribution.

Banning anything is removing free choice.

Banning anything is removing free choice.

The thing is they were banking on people not knowing what Azodiacarbonamide is. You don't have free choice when you have absolutely no idea what this stuff is and what it can do. Free choice is when there is transparency enough to make an informed choice.

Absolutely. And they spend billions to make sure that the natural citizen doesn't know what they are consuming in to their bodies.

I think the gig is up though. The world is waking up. Zippy can blow it out of his ass with the free choice nonsense.

Can you remove something from bread which isn't in bread?

But it is in bread! So long as they use the bleached flour!

Look Zippy, I am a baker and I make breads and pizza all the time. I even did it for a living. When you make dough there is usually five ingredients in it:

Flour unbromated /unbleached
water
oil/butter
yeast
salt

My bread doesn't sit on a counter for a week. It will mildew within the week.

Here is how they bleach flour:

The various chemicals used to bleach flour (oxidizing agents) may include:

•Benzoyl peroxide (banned in the EU and China)
•Calcium peroxide (banned in the EU and China)
•Chlorine (banned in the EU)
•Chlorine dioxide gas (banned in the EU and Australia)
•Azodicarbonamide (banned in Singapore, the EU and Australia)
•Potassium bromate (banned in the EU, Canada, China, Nigeria, Brazil, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Peru and more)
•Calcium bromate (banned in the EU and Canada)
•Nitrogen dioxide (banned in the EU and Australia)

^^^This bread can sit on a counter for a month and not mildew. That is not natural!
