Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Studio City, California, on Wednesday.
The Department of Homeland Security announced Chávez’s arrest in a Thursday press release, describing the 39-year-old former middleweight champion as a “public safety threat” with alleged links to the Sinaloa cartel.

The son of multiple-time world champion Julio César Chávez Sr., the boxer lost a high-profile 10-round bout with influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul this past Saturday.

In the statement, DHS said it was processing Chávez for expedited removal from the United States.

“Under President Trump, no one is above the law—including world-famous athletes,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in the release. “Our message to any cartel affiliates in the U.S. is clear: We will find you and you will face consequences. The days of unchecked cartel violence are over.”

Reached for comment by the Los Angeles Times, the boxer’s manager, Sean Gibbons, said his team was “working on a few issues” related to the arrest but declined to comment any further.

Michael A. Goldstein, an attorney representing Chávez, called the allegations against his client “outrageous” in a statement to The New York Times and said the boxer’s arrest appeared “to be designed as a headline to terrorize the community.”

According to the agency, Chávez entered the U.S. under a legal B-2 tourist visa in August 2023 and applied for permanent resident status in April 2024. His application was allegedly based on his marriage to U.S. citizen Frida Muñoz, who was married to Edgar Guzmán López, the son of Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, until his death in 2008.

He didn't draw Welfare, and with the money that he made I'm sure he frequented many fine restaurants, the same restaurants that Trump said they no longer have to pay taxes on tips. Wait, who ever reported tips anyway [oh, the little bone]???

May as well get rid of all of the masculine folks in this country [military age!!!], and leave the LGBTQwhatever+++ alone. Right,
@Anti Federalist ??? No more masculinity!!!

Good grief.

Good boxer, by the way, too bad he's going to be deported and will have to spend his money elsewhere.

What have we actually gotten from this Administration?

Fewer illegals entering the US.

Deporting people who are here legally.

More debt.

A complete takeover by a foreign enemy State.

Gotta love the way people are so worried about cartel gangsters.

And he was not here legally, he overstayed his visa.

Chavez is a Mexican citizen who has an active arrest warrant in Mexico for his involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

In August 2023, he entered the country legally with a B2 tourist visa that was valid until February 2024.

Chavez is also believed to be an affiliate of the Sinaloa Cartel, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. ICE arrested Chavez in Studio City, California on July 2.

On April 2, 2024, Chavez filed application for Lawful Permanent Resident status. Chavez’s application was based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen, who is connected to the Sinaloa Cartel through a prior relationship with the now-deceased son of the infamous cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

On December 17, 2024, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services made a referral to ICE that Chavez is an egregious public safety threat. However, an entry in a DHS law enforcement system under the Biden administration indicated Chavez was not an immigration enforcement priority.

On January 4, 2025, the Biden administration allowed Chavez to reenter the country and paroled him into the country at the San Ysidro port of entry.

Following multiple fraudulent statements on his application to become a Lawful Permanent Resident, he was determined to be in the country illegally and removable on June 27, 2025.

“This Sinaloa Cartel affiliate with an active arrest warrant for trafficking guns, ammunition, and explosives was arrested by ICE. It is shocking the previous administration flagged this criminal illegal alien as a public safety threat, but chose to not prioritize his removal and let him leave and COME BACK into our country,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Under President Trump, no one is above the law—including world-famous athletes. Our message to any cartel affiliates in the U.S. is clear: We will find you and you will face consequences. The days of unchecked cartel violence are over.”

This criminal illegal alien's rap sheet is below:

  • On January 22, 2012, California Highway Patrol arrested Chavez and charged him with DUI alcohol/drugs and Driving Without a License. On June 23, 2012, the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, convicted Chavez for the offense of driving under the influence of alcohol and sentenced him to 13 days in jail and 36 months’ probation.
  • On January 14, 2023, a District Judge issued an arrest warrant for Chavez, for the offense of organized crime for the purpose of committing crimes of weapons trafficking and manufacturing crimes, in the modality of those who participate in clandestinely bringing weapons, ammunition, cartridges, explosives into the country; and those who manufacture weapons, ammunition, cartridges, and explosives without the corresponding permit.
  • On January 7, 2024, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Chavez and charged him with Illegal Possession of Any Assault Weapon and Manufacture or Import Short Barreled Rifle. The court convicted Chavez of these charges.

Can we stop with the reflexive aid and comfort to the enemies of this country already?

If this guy is an actual criminal with warrants, why wasn't he arrested long ago? And did his legal entry visa expire? Does he have a current visa?

Of course this is just another outrage story in opposition to deportations, with the addition of cognitive dissonance. Even the leftwing media is saying he has cartel ties. "Even cartel members shouldn't be deported!"

And in California, the name "Chávez" is always thrown around for attention, or to gain popularity or sympathy. If AOC was from California, her name would be Alexandria Ocasio-Chávez. Everyone wants to imply some connection to Cesar Chávez.

With all of the protectionism/regulations/and now that gambling BS, the cartels might actually be on to something. A choice between the Government Mafia and the private mafia, which one is the "lesser of evil"? 👍

I'm sure they don't know a thing about Chavez and his beliefs.

From the Wik:
In the early 1970s, Chavez sought to expand the UFW's influence outside California by opening branches in other U.S. states. Viewing illegal immigrants as a major source of strike-breakers, he also pushed a campaign against illegal immigration into the U.S., which generated violence along the U.S.-Mexico border and caused schisms with many of the UFW's allies.

Chavez increasingly blamed the failure of the UFW strike on illegal immigrants who were brought in as strikebreakers. He made the unsubstantiated claim that the CIA was involved in part of a conspiracy to bring illegal migrants into the country so that they could undermine his union. He launched the "Illegals Campaign" to identify illegal migrants so that they could be deported, appointing Liza Hirsch to oversee the campaign. In Chavez's view, "if we can get the illegals out of California, we will win the strike overnight." This was a reiteration of an early view he expressed concerning the problems the UFW boycott faced in 1972. Chavez believed that any strike undertaken by agricultural workers could be undermined by "wetbacks" and "illegal immigrants". Huerta urged him not to refer to migrants who had come to the U.S. illegally as "illegals" but Chavez refused, stating: "a spade's a spade."

LOL

The cartels are far more evil and murderous even than the deepstate.
