Fair Comparison of Ron Paul & Rick Santorum by Rachel Maddow

Fuck this pisses me off. Not because it wasn't a good segment. But because it could've been so much more.

Maddow had the PERFECT setup to ask Steele that "isn't it someone who can get the most independents is the one who can win a general election?"

Goddamnit it would've been the fucking cherry on top.

Both of them were better than usual but still got some ways to go before I consider them right or fair.

I can't believe I agree with Maddow on something. She has it right. Santorum is the anti-Paul. Their side might be bigger, Steele might be right about that, but it doesn't matter... because they need every vote they can get in November if it isn't Paul.

It is demogoguery to say Ron would legalize prostitution or heroin, he'd have states regulate it. This is not in his campaign platform, clearly.

and yeah, Santorum absolutely wants federal intervention

Isn't prostitution already a state issue? How else is it legal in come Nevada counties?

I am not sure why anyone thought that was in any way positive - just the usual snark and derisive tone from that Maddow guy.

I did not watch the entire piece, but I hung in until Steele had completed his "defense" of RP & Santorum re: abortion s/b a state decision.

Fair and Maddow are two words that should never be used together in a sentence.
I don't care how "fair" this one segment happened to be. Maddow is a douchebag. I'll never forget her unfair bashing of Ron Paul.

I've never been a fan of that transvestite. Her ridiculously smug opiniontary and demagoguery is exactly what we need less of in the media. She's even worse than O'Reilly.

Steele did pretty good, he is right to say that the GOP should be trying to bring us in instead of telling us that we are not welcome.

yes. Low blow on the transvestite name-calling, but I agree. She is a moron, and has done far more damage than good for her viewers.

Rick Santorum does not believe in letting states decide abortion policy. Steele's just spouting nonsense at this point.

Let me help you out. They are on the same political team.

Every once in a while I think, "Michael Steele actually seems like slightly less a douche than most GOP insiders."

While an interesting analysis by Rachel Maddow, I think she does overstate Santorum's support. While we all know that Ron Paul supports support him because we love Ron Paul, much of Rick Santorum's supporters are simply the surge people - the anti-Romney vote, very soft support, not exactly people voting for him because they want him as much as they don't want Romney. Stele is correct when he talks about a lot of them being fiscal conservatives who do agree with Ron Paul on fiscal issues (those are usually the ones who like Ron Paul except for his foreign policy). Maddow is correct in her analysis that Santorum is essentially the anti-Paul, but she's wrong to think that the supporters carried by each represents some kind of big wall. I do think it's fair to say that there is some fence though, but the bigger question is which is stronger - the anti-Romney vote or the anti-Paul vote? Because the answer of that will determine who those voters will flock to when Santorum collapses, and thus who will win the primary.

Same with abortion. I hate this woman. She talks like she doesn't understand the concept of state's rights, yet she's a political commentator? I understand Progressive thought even though I don't agree with it.

steele is smoking crack if he thinks ron paul supporters will support Status Quo(everyone but paul) NO ONE BUT PAUL or the gop will elect obama.

Santorum is just frothing at the mouth to go into more wars. Wow, that guy is scary.

My gosh... Rachel's analysis of the Pro Life position was hysterical. To claim that someone that opposes abortion must, therefore, be in favor of an intrusive government "monitoring every fertilized egg" is just... can she actually look her viewers in the eye and say she really believes that? Geez.

Granted, I think her presentation was ridiculous as well, but I think her point is that there is no way to effectively control/criminalize abortion unless you require anyone pregnant to report this to the gov't (personally, or via doctor regulations). because if it's not reported, there's no way the gov't would know/care in the first place. so yes, criminalizing abortion effectively would require that gov't keeps track of 'every fertilized egg'.

it's the same issue with those who seek to say, check ids of potential illegal immigrants... the only way to do that is to check everybody's id (paper's please). or, taking Santorum as an example, he doesn't believe in privacy in the bedroom, nor the right to consensual sex... but the only way you could know un-approved sex was going on is is if you were looking into everyone's bedroom.

Maddow makes it sound that Rick Santorum is against condoms and scares viewers into thinking that he would ban them as president as soon as possible.

He never said that - he said that if a state wants to ban condoms, they should be allowed to. He has personally said that he does not support banning condoms, but that he supports the right of the state to ban them.

Seriously these liberal pundits do not seem to understand the concept of States rights at all. I'm only putting this out there as people have pretty much pointed out where Maddow went wrong with Paul.
