I just got a call from a friend of mine who up to just recently was one of those extremist neo-cons who basically mocked Ron Paul. This guy is a good friend however, and we've exchanged literally hundreds of emails and phone calls on the topic of Ron Paul.

He's not mocking any more! He just called to let me know that he will not vote for McCain, and would in fact vote for Ron Paul if he were to go third party or independent!

I wonder how many others would follow suit? I would bet a LOT. Maybe RP wouldn't win, but just think if he were to take 15 or 20% of the general election votes? The Revolution may have truly just begun!

In a third party run, Ron might get 10% of the popular vote and no electoral college votes. Why bother?

I think he would do better. A lot of democrats hate Hilary. A lot of republicans hate McCain. Ron Paul could be the protest vote for both parties and win a lot of independents as well. My guess is that he would get at least 15%, and though that may not get him (us) the White House, it could be the start of something beautiful.

At the very least, he needs to stay in the race one way or the other to give moral support to all the Ron Paul clones running for other offices.

Not exactly sure of what you wanted me to see in all of that jumbled mess... but I did find this jewel on the forum there:

Yes....
If Paul runs..I'll vote for him....
if he doesn't run....I'm not voting....

I'd rather have Hillary in the Whitehouse....and have her screw things up for 4 years...and then have a much better chance of getting an actual conservative elected....

If McCain is elected...we'll have liberal policies....people will be fed up with republicans, again....
and the chances of electing an actual conservative are lowered.....

Was that what you wanted me to see?

I'm quite sure Ron Paul would get an amazing number of votes if it comes down to Hilary and McCain as the only other choices.

The Ron Paul Revolution is to me much bigger than the one man, Ron Paul. If we are to restore our Republic it will be a long road and a lot of minds need freeing. The Revolution does not die if we lose this election and will not be won if Ron Paul wins this election.

Big picture baby, Restore our Republic!

Hannity, Rush, otherneocons... even old style conservatives, libertarians, anti war libertarians, and ofcourse 'RP republicasns all don't like mcCain. Why would the GOP set themselves up to lose to the DNC unless they wanted to?

The problem is, the hardcore neocon elite may detest McCain, but the average GOP voter is fine with him.

For me, it isn't about Ron Paul winning because I vote for him. If I vote for Ron Paul, at least I can say that I tried to change things. If I vote for the democrats and they further bankrupt our country with a national healtcare plan with no serious consideration given to how to fund such a monstrous federal program, or if I vote for the 'republicans' and we end up staying in Iraq for another 4 years, I will have that guilt on my hands. I will always know that it was I who clicked the mouse, I who marked the box with the pen, or I who poked out the chad that wasn't by Ron Paul's name. Yes, for myself, I think it is a guilt issue.

There's a lot of hardcore neo-cons out there, not all of whom are elite. I have run into numerous of them here locally while campaigning. They are everywhere.

Looking at the Hannity board a little more, I see them popping up there too... lot's of people over there saying they will absolutely NOT cast a vote for McCain.

If RP does not get the nomination he should keep his congressional seat and endorse another RP type candidate to capture the disenfranchised R & D votes in a 3rd Party run. Someone like Judge Neopolitano, or Mark Sanford, or ?

But I don't think RP should give up his seat because we need him to keep that and we need to gain more of them in Congress.

Ride the GOP race as long as possible, no third party, simply have a Gigantic super advertised Write In Bomb and really make history

welcome to the r3VOLution. you should never feel guilty for supporting freedom. You're a true patriot for doing so despite what other people think.

Is there anything in Mark Sanford's history that says he'd run as anything other than a Republican? I see nothing.

I understand there are a lot of Jeff Flake and Mark Sanford fans on this board. I waited for Ron to run for a long time and got actively involved because there didn't appear to be anyone else on the horizon and I'm getting old. Are Jeff Flake and Mark Sanford just more of the same "conservative" mish mash without any ideology? Are they social nanny staters who are good on economics? Or are they the real deal, embracing liberty? Any concrete answers on this, rather than just speculation?

I am in the same situation. I have done had TWO big neocon supporters tell me that they will gladly vote for Ron Paul if he runs third party in the general election. Ron seriously needs to consider this. The 4th of July would be a huge money bomb!

I could rally around Neopolitano. Especially a Neopolitano/Paul ticket. To be honest I think Neopolitano is more electable. Lets face it. For a lot of people looks matter and he has the typical presidential look/talk to him.

Edit: In this case Paul could still try for the GOP nomination and if that goes south he could hop on the Neopolitano ticket. Paul may even be able to use that as leverage at the convention.

why won't he just vote for him as a republican??

Right..this 3rd party stuff sounds like the damned people we have fought against this entire election. If they want the Republican Party to grow, they need to vote Ron Paul. If they want the Government to SHRINK they need to vote Ron Paul. If they want their dollars NOT to shrink, if they want to get rewards in Heaven for being the Peacemaker, then they have to vote RON PAUL. I don't care what party. If he was a democrat I would vote for him.

Right on... it's not about the party. It's not even about the man. It's all about the message!

Beachmaster -- I live in the Indy area -- I have found that when I can have a conversation over time, no pressure, that people begin to come around to Ron Paul. I too have a big McCain guy who has completely come over to Ron Paul.

On another day and another forum, I'll have to tell you about a crazy canoe trip me and some FSU college friends had down the Econfina River...
