Explosion kills, injures 'many' people in Turkey

DEVELOPING: An explosion killed at least five people Sunday in the Turkish capital of Ankara, according to Reuters, which cited the country's Dogan news agency.

People were also wounded by the blast, a senior security official told Reuters.

Turkish broadcaster NTV reported "many dead" in the blast. The explosion came after a car exploded near a bus stop, according to Turkish broadcaster TRT.

Gunfire was heard after the explosion, officials told Reuters. Ambulances rushed to the area and smoke could be seen rising from about two miles away, a witness told Reuters. Several cars were seen on fire.

Police sealed off the area and pushed onlookers and journalists back, warning there could be a second bomb.

The blast occurred near Guven Park, which is connected to a major transport hub, according to Reuters.

The explosion comes less than a month after a bomb killed 29 in Ankara. Kurdish militants took responsibility for that blast.

This really smells fishy.

Right at the time Erdogan has been chomping at the bit and begging to start a military crusade against the Kurds, he gets a convenient excuse.

This is what I think will happen. Turkey is a reservoir of refugees. Once Turkey becomes an EU member, guess what will happen to those refugees and probably half the Turks? They will have free, legal way to get into Europe.

If Turkey doesn't become an EU member, Turkey can just release teh flood gates to the reservoir. Either way, Europe will get swamped with tens of millions of economic migrants, refugees and a sprinkle of terrorist on top. Turkey will say.. oh they under terrorist attack and everyone should run west!

Of course, I doubt Europe will set up any kind of defense against it. Just build a tripple layer wall along the border and buy all private property with a generous offer to the land owners. Start setting up mines alone the greek and italian coasts and islands. But they would never do it because a mine would blow up a ship and down goes 600 people. Media would have a field day.
