Exhaustive Study Finds Global Elite Hiding Up to $32 Trillion in Offshore Accounts

The actual sums could be higher because the study only deals with financial wealth deposited in bank and investment accounts, and not other assets such as property and yachts.

Ya, try a lot higher.

Communist rag complaining that some people are hiding their wealth from the ravenous socialists government tax thugs. Boohoo. I wish EVERYONE would hide their wealth and starve the state to death.

Of course the chances are that much of the wealth being hidden was ill-gotten through crony capitalism. But, putting that aside as a separate issue, there is nothing immoral about trying to shield your wealth from taxation. Indeed, it is a highly moral act.

This is philosophically true.

On the other hand, in the real world - MANY of these uber rich have essentially stole that money through governance and being politically connected to the centralized counter fitters.

Just a thought.

I see your future:

a knock on the door, 3 dark suit agents present IRS badges...

*yikes*

Hahahaha. Fortunately I have nothing to hide. I find life more pleasant that way. Also, as a salaried employee, it would be pretty darn hard to hide my income. I don't think there is anything immoral about tax evasion, but I don't choose to do it. In fact, it isn't uncommon for the IRS to SEND me money because I messed up my return somehow. I don't have the kind of mind it takes to be clever about taxes because it just doesn't interest me.

so your saying they all have accounts in the First National Bank of Mars.....:D

This is just a demonstration of the wealthy (financially literate) seeing the political writing on the wall, and fleeing the sinking ship of the US economy. This movement of funds outside US borders will be used as political justification by the US government for tightening monetary controls on all Americans within its borders. That’s an unspoken purpose of the TSA agents, (to prevent US citizens taking their money out of the country). Try leaving the country with a lot of cash, gold, or other funds on hand. (I.E; Eduardo Saverin)

Theoretically, is it such a bad thing that this vast store of wealth is just sitting unused in bank accounts overseas? If, for example, $1 Trillion came back overnight and someone actually tried to spend it, it would likely cause inflation. At least in the short term, I'm glad I'm not competing with with Moneybags for purchasing goods/services on a local or national market.
