Exclusive: Top S.C. Tea Party Senator Tom Davis To Endorse Ron Paul

I'm a bit suspicious of the fact that this news was leaked early. Until I hear it straight from Davis mouth, I'll hold my celebrations.

Most endorsements like this are leaked. Haley's endorsement of Mitt was leaked. That's just how the game is played.

I'm guessing this was "leaked" intentionally. Lots of people have been letting him know we'd like to see it announced sooner rather than later, and that we'll have his back if there's any blowback. I'm sure he's planning to make it a personal endorsement at some event with RP, and this is a way to get voters thinking about it without taking away the "formal" announcement.

Clever and helpful move on his part. He should get an extra gold star for this.

And extends the news cycle about it.

I'm not, we should tell demint that he is the one that splitting the party in half by not endorsing anyone. It is he who will lose the GOP the election to obama. Romney supporters will grudgingly vote for paul against obama, but the reverse is not true even with a vp.

And now that Davis is going to endorse Paul, if he were to endorse, demint only has one choice.

DeMint may lose the election to Obama by not endorsing Paul.

Who do you want GOP? Paul or Obama?

Didn't Jim DeMint go on Jon Stewart and basically endorse Ron Paul? But it's not official or what?

I know that's how my wife read that interview. After watching it, I said something along the lines of 'There's a lot of hope he might endorse Ron Paul' and my wife, who doesn't pay nearly as much attention to politics as I do, instantly responded: "Well, he basically just did without mentioning him by name." It was clear as day to her.

"I was one of only a handful of Politicians who endorsed President Paul when everyone said he was unelectable." - Presidential Candidate Tom Davis, May 2031

This meme is fantastic. Any conservative politician who wants to be remotely feasible in coming elections MUST stand behind Ron Paul now or else be swept away as we clean house. Those who do will be rewarded with reelection, assuming their policy matches their endorsement.

Push it. That should be posted anywhere that discusses Tom Davis.

Do you have a link? Looked for it and couldn't find it.

This.

It almost seems as if this is a personal thing for you Gunny.... hmm

If this guy runs for Senate vs Graham, I suspect we could get many of the RPF members fully behind him and work out butts off for him.

Certainly. He'd be a huge improvement over Senator Graham. When is Lindsey up for re-election?

K, just checked, Graham is up for re-election in 2014.

Everyone's celebrating like this is a U.S. Senator--it's only a state Senator. Not gonna have a huge impact on surging poll numbers.

it will in South Carolina.... he's a tea party darling type thing. Correct me if I'm wrong but he is much more popular than Nikki Haley down here

in most cases you'd be right, but dude holds a lot of sway in S.C.

He was listed as having the second most sway in the state aside from Demint, and ahead of Haley.

Looks like he's quite popular there.

Closer to home, though, it’s looking as though the endorsement of S.C. Sen. Tom Davis – who is widely-presumed to be Graham’s future U.S. Senate opponent in 2014 – is almost as coveted as the blessing of DeMint (and perhaps even more coveted than the blessing of Haley, whose approval ratings are in the toilet).

Earlier this week, the Hilton Head Island Packet did a story on the efforts being undertaken by several 2012 candidates to land Davis’ endorsement.

“That presidential candidates are courting Davis personally — treatment typically reserved for governors and Statehouse officers — is a measure of his growing influence among South Carolina conservatives,” the Packet noted.

The fact that someone like this would be willing to stick his neck out for Ron Paul could be a game-changer in South Carolina.
