From Ron Paul's July 2012 Campaign finance disclosure:

Cash on hand: $2,497,183.28
Debt: $0.00

From Gary Johnson's July 2012 Campaign finance disclosure:

Cash on hand: $14,264.95
Debt: $296,201.47

When it comes to sound money and responsible banking practices the differences between these two men could not be more stark.

If you are looking for someone to take up Ron Paul's torch, especially on economic matters, the bottom line is this:

Gary Johnson is not that man.

Vote for him sure, but he doesn't have the integrity needed to be the figure head of anything bigger than a protest vote.

I've been wondering for a while about this: if a candidate ends his or her campaign with debt, is that necessarily an indication that they have real, legitimate debt?

It seems to me that there are probably a lot of individuals and businesses who essentially would say "we'll provide time/resources, fully aware that we might not get paid back, and if we don't get paid back we'll consider it to have been de facto volunteer work. But if there IS money to be paid, we will get paid."

Sort of like how medical offices submit huge bills to insurance companies knowing they most likely won't get paid in full but figuring they should still state the full amount they'd like to receive just in case the insurance company decides to pay it.

If this is the case, while it's still awesome that Ron forbids campaign debt, it also strikes me that ending a campaign with debt isn't necessarily a bad thing.

There are lots of people in every campaign, including Ron Paul's, who would like to get paid for their work but would do it for free if push came to shove. When a campaign has tens of millions of dollars, a lot of people prefer to get a share of that!

Sooo?Your saying vote for Romney?HELL NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I vote for Gary Johnson cause he is the better choice and I would rather see him win then Obama or Romney.

Seriously, you're using that as evidence to not support Gary Johnson? He's using all of his money trying to fight the Romney/Obama machine. Ron has sat on his money since he stopped campaigning. Not to mention he's had millions of times more donations than Gary.

GJ haters really have to come up with something better than this.

Dude,,, Just listen to the words that come out of his mouth.

Vote for him if you want,, But please stop pushing the dumb ass off on folks.

I will probably be voting for him and I totally agree with you. It's a protest. He shouldn't have much future in the liberty movement unless he breaks down and says he was so wrong back then and and learned his lesson. I don't think he's done that.

He's just really another republican that agrees on a few civil liberty issues. I just want my vote to be somewhere other than the 2 parties and somewhere where it will be counted, hopefully.

Gary Johnson is no Ron Paul.

But Gary Johnson is on the ballot and running. Ron Paul is not.

And I'm for damned sure not voting for Obama or Romney.

So Gary Johnson gets my vote!

Wrong. Not even close. Look at his stance on issues and his track record as governor. On a scale of 1 to 10 (socialist=1 capitalist=10), Obama is a 1, Romney is a 4, Gary Johnson is a 9 and Ron Paul is a 10.

Not supporting Gary Johnson because he's not Ron Paul makes you guys look like groupies.

And you just pulled those numbers out of your ass and based them on arbitrary, ambiguous words like "socialist."

No.. it is all the Pushing the guy that is getting fucking annoying,, and provoking annoyed responses.

I have heard the man talk. watched him in interviews, and in the Debates,

The man wants to go after Kony. to prevent "genocide".. He said that.
he is a fucking idiot that I wouldn't trust with Power tools let alone power of the presidency.

It is not just a protest vote, I will vote Gary Johnson for the reason that he supports more of my ideals then O or M, and we need a third option in this country. We may not have another Ron Paul for many years. there can be no trust without earning our respect, and I fear that will take quite some time.

Actually this is the real reason why you shouldn't vote for Johnson at all:

Federal Election Commission Certifies Federal Matching Funds for Johnson

WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission has certified the payment of $73,692.29 in federal matching funds to presidential candidate Gary Earl Johnson for the 2012 primary election. The United States Treasury Department transferred the certified amount on August 7.

In May, based on Johnson’s initial threshold submission, the Commission requested that the U.S. Treasury make an initial payment of $100,000 to Johnson’s campaign. In June, the Commission requested that the U.S. Treasury make a second payment in the amount of $130,058.91. The most recent payment raises the total amount of federal funds certified thus far to Johnson, the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee, to $303,751.20.
