The Biden administration has initiated the auctioning of unused materials originally intended for the construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall. This comes just weeks before President Joe Biden’s term concludes and President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office in January 2025.
The materials, which include hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of steel tubing and other components, were initially procured under the Trump administration’s push for border security. However, upon taking office in 2021, President Biden halted the wall’s construction, leading to these materials sitting idle until now.
The auctions, conducted through GovPlanet, an online marketplace for surplus government materials, have seen these items sold for what critics describe as “pennies on the dollar.”
