"Everyone is basically a Socialist except Ron Paul" MSNBC's Tucker

Communism is a utopian idea that has never been achieved by any modern nation state. The closest thing to communist societies are probably some stone-age hunter-gatherer tribal type communities of less than 100 people.

Socialism is what we get from nation states that are run by people who admire communist ideals. Which at this point is basically every government on the planet. I can't think of a single nation that believes in individual liberty in the way that the founding fathers of the U.S. did. The very notion is regarded as a quaint anachronism by the over-educated fools running this circus.

Oh BTW, fuck Tucker.

This is a very important point to make. Socialism is by far the best form of government as long as you've got a small number of people. Once you grow beyond your monkeysphere, however, you've got problems. Testing shows this to be about 150 people or so. So for a country, there's no way that it ever works. For a small island of you and your friends, it's the natural form of government.

/soapbox :)

Edit to put the link to monkeysphere:

This is a great angle to explain to people. I think you can probably stretch that number into the thousands, but so what, it all falls apart with MILLIONS of people. :)

Certainly not. Communism has never existed in practice. Pray tell, when was the withering away of the state?

Socialism is the public ownership of the means of production; fascism the de facto public ownership (different side of same socialist coin) of the means of production and capitalism the private ownership of the means of production.

No the USSR was flat out communist, not socialist.

That is flat out wrong. Communism is stateless--no government. The fact that the party existed in USSR and in China makes those countries not truly communist. Communism is supposed to achieve complete classlessness by following the creed of "from each according to ability, to each according to need": and everybody's needs are supposed to be generally equal, of course.

Some who seek communism advocate socialism as the transition to achieve complete communism.

That does not mean in any way that all those who advocate socialism necessarily seek communism.

So, a major difference between communism and socialism is that communism entails having no government (and no ruling class). That obviously hasn't happened (human nature might have a little to do with that :) ).

This is absolutely correct. True communism that allows for the stateless community has not been achieved. Soviet Russia was not communist. They were socialists that enjoyed the thought of communism.

Like the saying goes; communism is great on paper. Anarcho-libertarianism is the best we can hope for in relation to anything that resembles true communism, but could still be governed by the law of the constitution.

I like Tucker. Even when he drives me crazy and i'm yelling at the tv when he's on.

Socialism is soft communism.

This is correct, Socialism is Communism, I was born in "Republica Socialista Romania" And i can assure you it was as communist as it got, although until the mid 70's you wouldn't know it was a communist country, life was good back then for most people!

You are incorrect. Read above.

This is a great point. Those who want to know more should read Dare Not Call It A Conspiracy. A great book written in the 70's that talks about communism vs socialism, the CFR, international bankers, and presidential elections. A must read for any Ron Paul supporter.
