Events on... (discuss date choice for March/Rally in Washington D.C.)

It has to be July 4th. It's a holiday so a lot more people wouldn't have work conflicts.
Id give up my 4th of July to march for Paul

I say make sure it is right after we get those stimulus checks and we will get more people........

I like the 4th of July because of what it stands for and it is on a Friday..

The 4th should definitely be eliminated due to the issue I raised above.

They have fireworks that evening on the mall and many many people come out for the entire day.

It really needs to be on a non-major holiday.

Not 4th of july because of permits, events already there, people would not want to skip their family get togethers, plane tickets would be a lot more, etc... IMO.

Find a day: just go date by date through wikipedia.

Hey guys...

Seems to me that the most important criteria for choosing the date is: when are the most people potentially available ? That means the day must be

- on a weekend (NOT weekday, people work and might not be able to take days off for that)

- when students are out (we need the turnout)

- not at the same time as any other major event or holiday (people plan to leave on those
and do other things, plus interference with existing events might make it impossible to obtain permits)

- in the summer (more people are willing to march when the weather is good)

- when travel is cheap(er) i.e not on holidays again...

??? any other suggestions ???
once a full list of criteria is determined, then start looking for a date that matches.

Ron Paul himself said we need to do this right, and that we need to look at 3-4 months from now. This must be huge!!! People with families and jobs need time to make travel arrangements. We need time to schedule speakers. We need time to organize pot-a-potties, obtain permits, etc. and we need time to promote this in a MASSIVE way! The chosen date will have a direct effect on the size of this march and the success of it! This is the knockout punch! We have to knock this one out of the park!

Go to http://www.revolutionmarch.com/ and sign up! This project is already in the works!!!!

I keep seeing complaints if the march is on a weekday that "grown ups" can't
make it cause they work, and some students have finals...

People, if it is on a weekend, it could easily be ignored by the MSM. But if it is
in the middle of a WORKDAY and you got all these people MARCHING the MSM
will have to cover US!!!

Extra BONUS if it is on TAX DAY (April 15th, Tue) as we'll be showing our RESISTANCE
to the IRS!

I work full-time and I'll take the day off no matter what... they can fire me for all
I care...

That's all fine and dandy. I've never been more passionate about anything in my life. HOWEVER, consider that I pay $14000 a year to go to college on a $5k/yr income. Also consider that missing finals drops my GPA and everything I've worked so hard for considerably. Most college students will not miss finals to go to a march no matter how important it is to them.

Good point, BUT those "grown ups" need time to arrange to be away from work, find someone to watch the kids, or work "plane tickets for the whole family to fly to DC" into the budget. I feel just as excited as everyone else here - don't get me wrong! But do you really want to have one tenth of the turnout JUST because we couldn't wait another month??????

Also, the proposed theme by the organizers is geared toward the constitution. This is a more broad theme which includes everyone = bigger turnout. We aren't just protesting for relief from the tax burden! It's for all our rights that should be ours under the protection of the Constitution.

Fair enough... I can see your argument about arranging for the entire family
to fly out and situated ... that would be tough. I do still think that it would be
best to have it on a weekday. That way there will be a good coverage of the
"protest" or march.

honest q: Why do you get better coverage if it's on a weekday?

IMO, I could be wrong though, if it is on a weekend, most people won't
be going home to watch their TVs to see us marching and protesting.
But if it is a weekday event, there will be some "disruptions" to traffic,
or people passing by will be inquiring about what is going on, they could
themselves start the "buzz" going after they get to where ever it is they
were headed (office, place of business, seeing clients, etc.). There
will most likely be more TV coverage because it is a weekday and more
people out and about trying to conduct business ...

Just watch CNN or your local news on any weekend, it isn't as "active"
as a weekday one... do you not agree?

Do you really think so? Maybe I don't know something about the media that you do - but it seems to me that if there was a couple million people outside the whitehouse, it would turn heads any day of the week. Don't you think?

Again though, you might know something I don't know...
