Post the most utterly stupid thing you have heard someone say about government, the economy, law enforcement, etc.

I'll get the ball rolling:

"We really need to start some new wars. The economy is suffering, and war is the only real way to revitalize it!"
~An accountant with a degree in Economics actually told me this the other day.

"Our banks are great. We are very lucky to have them."

"Debt ceilings are antiquated. The government should be able to spend as it sees fit."

"If you have nothing to hide, if you're not doing anything wrong, what are you worried about?"

"WWII got us out of the Great Depression."

I hear that crap all the time.

Mom: "I just don't understand why you're so against school. You just have to pay attention to what's going on, and talk to the teachers, and work with them on homework..."
My wife: "So... how is that less effort than me teaching them?"
Mom: .... .... ....

Step-mother-in-law: "Of course the state should be running libraries. When I was growing up [ in Orofino, Idaho ] my mother started a library, and she worked very hard and had to get contributions and donated books, and spent a lot of time and effort putting together their library."
Me: "So, you're arguing for state-run libraries with a success story from the free market?"
Step-mother-in-law: "Well, you see, it was very hard!"

Arent we subjected to these moments all of the time?

Theres only one presidential candidate out of 5-10 that sides with liberty. That means we have to deal with 4-10xs the amount of BS that the ordinary sheep is subjected to.

New nutritionist acquaintance from Canada: "There's a bill in Virginia which will mandate licensing for nutritionists."
Me: "And how do you feel about it?"
Canadian: [runs down all the statist fallacies about quality]
Me: "So, what brought you down to Virginia?"
Canadian: "There were no job openings in Manitoba." (Where, by the way, there is licensing.)

1. "It was a good thing that the Civil War was fought and over 600,000 people died. Could you imagine if all those people would have still been alive? Where would we put all of the extra people today that would have come from them, and how would we feed all of them?"

2. "We need to keep our military bases overseas because we don't have enough jobs for them all. Then they would all go on unemployment. That would hurt our economy."

"Gay-marriage is the Civil Rights moment of our lifetime"

LoL

If it isn't then what is?

I feel it is one more huge step towards wiping out collectivism, probably the biggest left as far as a group of people everyone else wants to dictate too...

here's a good one: (in reference to the PATRIOT act extension)

and you have to pay for those rights

"Freedom isn't free"

And as we grew bigger so did our government

and

I am floored that you are married to a service member
You want a milita
a national guard
don't help anyone but yourself
let the british and french handle the world's problems
because America only cares about America
Japan is in turmoil
Canada can handle it
There is mass genocide in Africa?
German's got it

me: "do some research. stop being so dense [in response to him saying "it's all bush's fault" even after me calling obama bush iii]. i have no idea where you even stand on anything, besides you think you are a patriot for being in the military."

Ya you get it from fox news and ultra conservative blogs
Do the same
Yes and I think you arent [a patriot]
And should move to canada
Since you hate America so much

i have to give him credit. this douche bag is in the Navy-- a global force for good.

ah, and just for giggles, as i'm arguing for individual freedom and limited, even NO government (and no taxes), and have presented the NAP, his response:
You can't debate
You try to bully people to think like you

lulz!!!

Someone has been drinking the Kool Aid. There is nothing stopping two men from forming a legal contract.

Marriage is a religious institution which government has no business dictating rules and regulations related to it. The definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. Gays whom have a problem with that definition should take it up with their church or start a new religious organization that redefines it as something else.

The gay marriage movement could have done us all a favor and lobbied for the elimination of government laws related to marriage. But instead they insist on re-definition of marriage and for all of us to recognize it infringing on the religious beliefs of others and further ensuring government interfere in family life where they certainly do not belong.

From the Clinton era, during the Lewinsky scandal:

"Just because there was semen on the dress, doesn't mean they had sex."

In my intro level politics course of about 200+students, some kid told the class he wanted to ban religion in the United States. I wanted to punch him in the face.was so close..

Sure it is. A bunch of collectivized via bedroom practices (let's hope it stays there) members of a distinct subculture and its afficiandos, hidden and not, get collectivized privileges and that is wiping out collectivization. My compiler spit a console error on that turn of logic.
