This is an email i sent to some top college Republicans
I am writing in reference to the 2008 Republican Presidential Nomination. I would ask you to consider supporting the Representative from Texas, Dr. Ron Paul. He represents a substantial and growing base of the Republican Party that no other candidate can claim. Dr. Paul’s internet and grassroots support is overwhelming, which is converting into success in the polls.
I strongly believe that Ron Paul is the truest conservative in the race. Ronald Reagan once said, “the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism”. Dr. Paul represents these libertarian ideals of conservatism. He fights for personal liberty and is known as the Champion of the Constitution. Fox News’ Judge Andrew Napolitano called Ron Paul the “Thomas Jefferson of our day”.
Dr. Paul has never voted to raise taxes in his 10 terms in Congress. In fact, he wants to abolish the IRS. Dr. Paul also plans to cut government waste and end unnecessary government programs, replacing them with free market alternatives. Ron Paul is one of the few Republicans to oppose the quagmire in Iraq from the beginning. He advocates a traditional foreign policy of non-interventionism.
Most of all Dr. Paul is an honest man. As a doctor, he worked out low payment plans or did work for free for his low-income patients instead of accepting Medicare or Medicaid. Dr. Paul did not let Washington change him. He has never taken a Congressional paid junket, he does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program, and he returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Please consider voting for, supporting, and at least looking into and discussing Ron Paul for President. He advocates the true ideals of the Republican Party and brings honesty that Washington needs. You can learn more about him at www.ronpaul2008.com.
Sincerely,
David Graves

This is the response I got. I was surprised he even knew who ron paul was, but he had a bad opinion of him.

Ron Paul will never receive my support for president after his comments
on 9/11/01....you have a lot of nerve to ask me, the CR Chair of NY,
the state where the deadliest attacks on our Nation took place, to
support a candidate for president who says we caused the 9/11/01 attacks.

You're better off contacting the college Libertarians. They're probably a bigger group given the age group.

Seems as dumb or ignorant as Rudy.

Sounds like he's been "Hannitized".

No, you NEED to reply to this guy. You NEED to ask him, Where did Ron Paul blame Americans for the 9/11 attacks.

THEN, proceed to explain he won't be able to quote, or find any reference to Dr. Paul blaming Americans, because THERE ISN'T ONE.

You need to further explain how the CIA - including head over osama's unit for what, 15 years, backs Ron Paul's positions on foreign policy, enough to stand next to him during his press conference on the matter.

You need to explain to him, through this, that he committing an act of SLANDER by stating ron paul blames the america people - because he will not be able to find any quotation of the sort - making that a lie, and if he doesn't want to engage in slander and tactics to be expected by failures- he should look into where he is getting his information so it doesn't make him look like a liar.

Because that's what mis-quoting in deliberate manner is, slander- and that's what slander is- lying.

Also suggest, that Ron Paul's supporters need gop members such as him, just as much as the GoP will need US, so they should not engage in these sort of tactics, and need to behave themselves a little more appropriately as adults.

That's just what I'd say- and have said - and will say again to those who reply to me directly stating that repeated sheeple phrase nonsense.

<3.

Rudy is actually blaming America for 9/11 because he says its our freedoms and stuff that caused it. Ron Paul just says its our policy.

I did respond. And she seemed to be enlightened and open minded after i used facts and reason and sent her the link of the youtube vid.
She asked what is his policy on terrorism

Tell her that he believes we should secure our borders so that terrorists cannot enter here so easily illegally, and he believes that we should go DIRECTLY AFTER THOSE WHO ATTACKED US, namely, Bin Laden. He voted to go after Bin Laden in direct response to the attacks on 9/11. Tell her that he actually is stronger than all the other candidates on terrorism, because he wants to get the culprits for 9/11 and not pander around in other countries that had little or nothing to do with the september 11th attacks.

He is the STRONGEST national defense candidate because he actually wants to focus on DEFENSE, not offense.

This is what i wrote. Not so sure about the last part but it sounded right

Ron Paul feels that our foreign policy (ie: keeping troops in the Muslim world, invading Iraq) increases hatred of us and breed terrorism. He wants to withdraw our troops from the Muslim world. He feels we can't tear down and install governments because it creates more terrorism and our servicemen and women are targets. There are more terrorists in Iraq now than under Saddam.
We have to identify the enemy who attacked us on 9/11. It isn't Saddam/Iraq/Taliban. It is Bin Laden and Al-Queda. Bin Laden can be anywhere. He had no state sponsor. We overthrew a whole government with out finding Bin Laden.
So Ron Paul wants to withdraw troops and instead of forcing democracy on the middle east set a good example of it. Islamic hatred of us will lessen and terrorists will lose strength because they are backed by the people
He will also secure the border/increase security, and fight terrorism on the home front and with the CIA/FBI.

Decent, but tell her specifically that Ron Paul WANTS to and VOTED FOR the authorization to go after Bin Laden and al-Qaeda. He is not soft on terror at all, he simply doesn't believe we should use terrorism as a pretext to enter unrelated, drawn out, unwinnable, draining wars, but rather to go directly for the source.

Gravesdav,

GREAT JOB! It just goes to show that there are a lot of people out there that have no idea that he didn't blame America for 9/11. If they watch FOX, or listen to someone like Hannity on the radio, they have been told over and over that he did just that.

I'm not sure what the best way is to get the facts out, but we simply must. If we can't even get people over this hump, they won't look further.

Better yet, talk the college libertarians into taking over the college republicans.

One thing I ask occasionally in an argument about foriegn policy is: where in the constitution does it say we must take tax money by force, placing our grandkids in debt to install, arm, and then remove a dictator? I've yet to find an answer...

Good!

This is GREAT news. To win, we must convert Republican neo-cons, not simply dismiss them. Ron's ideas make sense if you will hear them, and if your mind hasn't been closed to them.
