Empire: Total War to be released March 4, 2009 (March 2, 2009 for Steam orders)

OK I am downloading it. Looks like this could be my next addiction.

At least until June when I start beta testing Elemental: War of Magic.

Which is Stardock's TBS that is striving to be the spiritual successor of Master of Magic.

OK I got it downloaded, and when I try to launch it I get "The game is currently unavilable. Try again later."

Why this happening? I have never used Steam before, but I am not impressed so far. any ideas?

*shrug* worked fine for me. Go search at twcenter.net

I loaded it up in about 15 minutes via Steam this morning. I beat the Americans with a 2:1 casualty rate at Brandywine with a pretty bad strategy in retrospect. The only thing that saved me was that I was able to flank a bunch of units when they moved to attack my minor force on the upper ford. I will now be playing the Battle of Lagos.

I played the demo a bit. Pretty fun. and I realize the full game is going to be a lot cooler with the full strategic map and stuff. This should keep me occupied for a couple of months :)

This isn't in real time, is it? Is it like Rome: Total War where you have to set everything up and then just tell it to execute?

Twfan55 on twcenter, and I am so getting this game. I already reserved it, its going to look so good on my computer

It appears that there is a strategic map that is turn based. When you enter combat, it seems to be quais real time although I think it can be paused while you give orders. I am not 100% sure on that last bit though

No, you can pause and observe the tactical situation. The campaign map has always been turned base, and I even believe they fixed the "no pause" feature in Rome with a patch down the line.
