El Paso Named Safest Big US City

I have a hard time even considering El Paso as a big city, I mean most to cities with highest crime are easily 2-3 times in size.

El Paso, Ft. Worth, and Austin have as large or larger populations than shooting galleries like Washington, DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Memphis, Detroit, Gary, etc.

San Antonio (and even Dallas, which is a little more dangerous than SA) is also much larger than those cities and is far less dangerous.

Notice that those cities with large numbers of recent immigrants aren't those highest in violent crime. Those with the highest crime rates have relatively low levels of recent immigrants.

Hmm, maybe immigrants aren't really the problem...

What total crap. shows just how statistics can lie. I guess it is safe if you don't mind being kidnapped, or beheaded if you can't pay the ransom.

How many cases of "beheading" can you show me that occurred in El Paso, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth and Dallas (all cities with well over 500,000 residents), combined in the last 20 years that were not the result of domestic family violence?

Note: Before you answer, remember, Juarez is in MEXICO, not in Texas or the USA.

Other than a few oddball cases of crazy people killing family members in domestic violence (OJ Simpson style), I don't know of a single case of a beheading in any of those cities.

The crime figures come from FBI statistics- not from what the cities claim. From the original article:

Another steaming pile. Where do you think the FBI gets their figures? Yah, the local police departments. If they aren't reporting, the FBI ain't getting, thus earning yet another DUH.

One other thing: when was the last time anyone heard anything about El Paso? What was that? Never? Yeah, and the very moment that town makes headlines regarding the shit going on down that way, they get named the safest in the nation? Are you kidding? What sort of an imbecile must one be in order to regard such a "coincidence" without so much as a grain of salt?

I have put out a request for alternative crime statistics and nobody has produced any so far. Perhaps you can help us out with some. Thank you for checking into this.

I have the misfortune of having to go to El Paso from time to time.

While it's not my favorite city in the world (dusty, poor, just not a cheery place), I've never felt it was anywhere near as dangerous as immigrant-limited similar sized cities like Baltimore, Washington DC and others.
