Ecuador grants political asylum to WikiLeaks' Julian Assange

Now they just have to sneak him out... It won't be easy. I suspect Brittain may forceably enter the embassy if they have any inkling they might move him.

This is like a real-life spy novel.

The only time they can take him is when he leaves the diplomatic car to get on a plane.Unless Ecuador finds a way to get him on an airplane while he is IN the car .

Actually, in the other thread it is detailed about how he can't even get to the diplomatic car without leaving the embassy.

That would seem reasonable, but apparently Britain doesn't believe that's true. They keep posturing about having the right under their laws to invade an embassy that is suspected of being an international criminal.

This is where the whole intrigue is playing out. Britain wants him, but they don't want to upset the political applecart. But if they think they might lose him forever, they may just go ahead with their plans.

Are the Ecuadorians assured he wont be extradited to the uS?

The Ecuadorian president is no fan of the US govt, I don't think he would put much stock in such "assurances". Hell, anybody that read the leaked documents in regards to Qaddafi would know better than to trust US or our little dog the UK either.

He can actually stay in the embassy for years if he can take it.

Can they not grant him citizenship and status as a diplomat? There is your immunity. Fuck the manky Britties and dumbass Swedes.

It seems now the Swedes are summoning the Ecuadorian Ambassador. I hope these folks are up to the pressure. They want this guy and they will use whatever means they can to get him. Obviously, they want to do it as politically justifiably as possible, but when those plans run out, watch out.

That would be a HORRENDOUS precedent to set.

yes but diplomatic immunity has to be given by the country the diplomat works in.And the UK will not give him the immunity. The only place he can stay is the embassy or its car.

When I though about it he can not even get on a plane or a ship because the UK will ground any plane or stop the ship from leaving harbor. The only thing he can do is go with the diplomatic car to France ( trough the tunnel ) where he can be picked up by a car from the Ecuador embassy in France in no-mans land. Then the same with Germany until he can get to a country like Slovakia,Czech republic,Poland who may let him take a plane or somehow manage to get to Russia

"In the United States, there are no guarantees that Assange would receive a fair trial or that he wouldn't be subject to a military or secret tribunal"

-Such a sad sentence to read.
