There is no harm in conserving energy whether you believe in human causality or not.(I don't) I thought that was what conservative meant.
Having said that, i forgot all about it and continued with my usual ingrained behaviour which is awareness that resources are finite and endeavouring to take my share and my share only.

I conserve energy all the time. Recycle and reuse whatever I can. Never waste any meat, even scraps (I have dogs and cats and use bones and shells and bones to make stocks), Fruit and veggies that may be extra go to the parrots. I just don't like wasting things. But right now my house is brighter than the Griswolds. just my little way to protest Al Gore and the globalist scheming scum of his ilk.

Exactly,
And it is a small cost to protest the global lie.
Had I remembered it, I would have a bonfire going with some old tires on it. :p

I think in the upcoming Climate Bill they have proposed a Carbon Credit Reserve for smoothing out the carbon permit pricing to prevent market fluctuations- I kid you not. The first thing that danced into my head upon reading this : will it be a fractional reserve carbon system?

Shutting the lights off for an hour was counterproductive.
Since AC cannot be stored, the "just in time" philosophy is quite literally followed. Since coal and nuclear power plants cannot just be shut off for an hour, they most likely were not. The power facilities that were most likely to be shut down for an hour to compensate for a brief dip in consumption would have been the Hydro or even any wind that might have happened to be generating at the time. However, it is likely that more natural gas facilities were brought online in "spinning reserve" to compensate for any unforeseen usage anomalies caused by a deviation in otherwise predictable human behavior.

A large enough variation in energy usage will put added stress on the grid and generating equipment, causing inefficiency and increased chance of malfunction.

Keep politics out of science. Policy makers don't work for the government because they're so damn smart.

I know you guys are protesting globalist policies and all, but don't forget that there are many in this country who equate our excessive lifestyle with freedom. Try not to look like those people.

waste /= liberty

"Keep politics out of science"

This is the root of the problem IMHO. Science is funded in most part directly by government. Government is the sole consumer and therefore the decider of scientific ends of research. The outcomes must be useful politically or it will tend not to get funded.

No conspiracy, just good old fashion political corruption.

i love your answer. i already conserve energy myself but i figured turn lights out smoke a joint:) hoping you have happy cows:) and everything is going good:)

Whats more, scientists like academics, seeking a market for their services, are a wholly subsidized group to say the least. When faced with the true market test for their services offered, the cold reality of lower wages and scarce market demand are staring them in the face. Like the young bird that does not want to leave the nest, they rush to find protections from the state welfare rolls instead of working a productive job and pursuing their devotion on the side.

The scientist as we know it today is more state controlled agent than a free mind in his field. The "scientific consensus" and "peer reviewed" that is spoken of is that of state funded scientists who have an immediate allegiance to the the state from which they enjoy secure paid positions. They wish to keep the tax stream flowing and those not yet government employed hope to get an available state tit to suckle. One only need to look at the shabby state of affairs in economics and its line towers that praise the state in currency debasement policy.

Why are cities bathed in artificial light from dusk to dawn? Are we afraid of the dark? If there were truly an energy crisis, governments should shut off all the street lights that waste energy illuminating roads that are driven on by cars with headlights. Why do empty parking lots need to be illuminated all night? If governments and businesses were concerned about illicit activity, install motion sensors that turn on the parking lot lights.

I've tried to find out how many billions of dollars are spent on street lights in this country, but hard to find that info. The eco-nazis tell us to turn off our little 60W bulb, while their Almighty Government has millions of 250+ watt lights burning all night.

Just to piss off the al gore people I'm going to put my christmas lights back up and turn every light in my house on for an hour :)

actually, the cities around me are doing just that, only it's not due to an energy crisis. They are being forced to save money and it costs a local town something like $50k a month in electricity. So they've been turning on the lights later and will turn them off sooner to save money. Some are even looking at shutting off half of the street lights on some roads, or going dark completely.

The costs of wasting energy are starting to appear, even without a major energy crisis. The economy is crisis enough.

The township I am in is like that, and I almost got into an accident because I could not see a gigantic crater in the middle of the road. One life lost is not even worth it.

As far as businesses, why does it matter? They will do what makes them money, and if they are paying for it, why should I care? As far the government, they should only be 1/10 of their size, and should conserve energy (tax dollars).
