Dutch farmer protests

Update on this story... (from last week, sorry).

The day after the farmer was arrested they already lowered the charge to 'we don't know yet'.
After two days the 16 year old was released with no charges.

An investigation into the officer that shot at the tractor is now in action.
Very likely there will be no punishment or very low.

Both the 16 year old farmer, his parents and the cop agreed that it's probably best to talk about it and treat what happened as a situation none of the participants wanted to happen. (Is what I read in the media)

All-in-all, not a bad outcome.

I don't have the details of what happened, but,

At least in the US, "best to talk about it and treat what happened as a a situation none of the participants wanted to happen" is code words for, the cops royally fucked up.

Same here. But I think it's also good for the police and farmers to recognise they are not enemies.

Like in the US, swept under the rug. A "learning opportunity".

Not enemies... how do you square that, when they are the ones executing orders to take farmers lands?

Sympathy. The farmers can and will win this war if they get enough sympathy. The numbers are on their side. [And morality]

To underline the sympathy part, farmers do get away with more than left wing protesters, simply because the police know they're decent people who are not out to destroy things... (not said as official policy of course but it can be noted)

Go Dutch! :fist:
Thank you, visitors welcome.

The Dutch are quite based. Hope they don't let up one bit.
What does the word 'based' mean ? All these new terms that keep coming up, I'm starting to feel real old.. Or I'm just conservative on my language and feel that adequate words to describe the situation already exist... In any case, I would happily be enlightened on the subject so I feel less stupid at least.

On the American side, I assure you that it is. If it suited Theire purposes, I promise you that such actions would be met with terminal violence.

Consider the summer of '21, Portland OR. Leftists trash the city as "authorities" stand idle, their tiny willies in their hands. It suited Wheeler's handlers to allow the lefties to riot and pillage. I lived in Portland in a time where the cops would have gone to war on those pricks with the first felonious act. Last year the cops were held in check because someone wanted the vermin to riot.

Were any group to threaten Themme, whether in fact or just as a matter of appearances, and it suited Themme to shut that door in the most non-equivocating language, Theye would hesitate no whit to kill them all. Consider Tien An Men in 1989. The Chinese filth butchered large numbers of their people not because the protesters posed any immediate threat, but because they wanted to send a message.

Tyrants stop at nothing. The history of the twentieth century should be all the proof you need on that point.
You are right.

I think it's slightly more complicated than that. But Johan de Witt had good idea's for the most part.

Here's another who they did not appreciate (much later in history): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Derk_van_der_Capellen_tot_den_Pol

When in 1776 the British King George III asked the Dutch whether he could borrow the Scotch Brigade (a unit of Scots in Dutch service) to be deployed in the war with the American Republic, he voted against.

Van der Capellen died in 1784, though his influence and legacy continued to impact well beyond the grave. A few years later, Orangists blew up his monument in Goor.

But despite being hated by a large part of the country, these people have left lasting effects in place which till today make The Netherlands quite a reasonable country.

You have far more optimism in humanity than I do.

I hope you're right.

Our political system has completely splintered over the past few years.

Below is the most recent poll. Total is 150 seats. A majority is therefore 76 seats.
Current government in bold/underline.

VVD: 21 (-13) [This is the biggest party over the past decade. Gets away with everything. Lying has become 'no active memory']
BBB: 20 (+19) [This is the party that specifically represents the farmers]
PVV: 15 (-2) [Party in favour of closed borders, anti Islam]
D66: 13 (-11) [This is the party that is the biggest proponent of getting rid of farmers. Globalists.]
GL: 13 (+5) [Extreme left. Have been accused of creating the climate in which one of our most promising politicians was killed in 2002.]
PvdA: 12 (+3) [Workers party, used to be very big and governing. Their polling will drop, they just gave the last votes for CETA, which is hated.]
PvdD: 8 (+2) [Party for Animals, makes no secret about aiming for a vegetarian world.]
JA21: 8 (+5) [Modern right wing party. Looking for compromises, I mean, comfy jobs while taking votes away from better parties]
SP: 7 (-2) [Socialist party. Quite decent on some things. But still socialists.
CU: 7 (+2) [Christian Union. Basically socialists who read the bible and enjoy being in power a lot.]
CDA: 6 (-9) [Christian Democrats, used to be a massive party but not anymore...]
Volt: 5 (+2) [Woke. Most pro EU globalist party out there. But they are internally fighting themselves on their wokeness]
FvD: 4 (-4) [Sometimes crazy, sometimes right down to the point. Originators of the referendum on the association treaty with Ukraine (61% against]
SGP: 4 (+1) [Reformed politicians. Quite decent on a lot of things]
DENK: 3 [Lets say this is a different kind of party that has been accused of representing Turkey more than The Netherlands.]
BIJ1: 2 (+1) [More woke]
50PLUS: 1 [Party for old folks.]
BVNL: 1 (+1) [Party started by one of the many ex-members of the VVD who went to FvD but then quit over too much drama and started his own party.]

There was a Slow Roll Convoy in Canada as well as other protests..
Cross Border Rally in Port Huron Mi.

and even some of 1776 RM are wearing Red Bandanas in solidarity.

Today the farmers blocked several highways by dumping dirt, hay bales, etc. Unannounced. Even though it's the summer vacation period, there were a lot of delays today.
